Shawn Ashmore Comments On X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, The Comic Book Story Arc & More

As we are waiting to see if anyone else from the original trilogy is coming back for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Shawn Ashmore talked to IGN about the new crime television series The Following, where he co-stars along Kevin Bacon. In a lengthy interview, Ashmore commented on returning to play 'Iceman' and when he realized that he will be a part of the new sequel. He was also asked about the script. More below:

"When I heard it was Days of Future Past I knew it was time travel, but the only time I ever really thought, ‘Oh, maybe I’m actually going to be a part of this' is when Bryan came back to direct. And that's just because we have a relationship and had worked together before. I just thought, ‘Oh, maybe Bryan would want to bring back some of the people he worked with before.’ Before that I had no idea, and I didn’t theorize too much because that’s when you get your hopes up."

"I know about the script, but I haven’t been able to read the script. (Laughs) I haven’t read the script, but I have a very good idea of what’s happening and what my role is. I know, but I’m sworn to secrecy."

"I think the take on the story is really interesting. I think that Days of Future Past, as any X-Men fans knows, is a great arc. I love the idea of combining and bringing some cohesion to the two timelines that are happening now. I think that’s exciting. Obviously the First Class cast is incredible, and having Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman interact with other cast members is going to be really exciting. Not only is the combination of the cast going to be really cool, but the story itself is going to be really fun."

Click the source below to check out what else he had to say. X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on a classic comic book storyline, which deals "with a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps." The arc also features the Sentinels, who rule the United States. Bryan Singer is directing the film, with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page starring in the upcoming sequel.

Just give us a fully iced up Iceman, some better uniforms, better screen times for each mutant, and a good story and we are all good.

Here's hoping they include banshee I really liked him in the movie and rose Byrne I think it's be more interesting if Xavier had a girlfriend. And magneto should keep the mutants he had in first class. I'm starting to think they and gonna not include anything from first class except the main four actors

@SuspenseSmith I used to read the books in elementary school and watch the show. Those little leeches that went inside your ear used to freak the hell out of me.

@SUPERMAN2013
Well actually I wouldn't mind xmen 4 but as long as they keep these characters they should move all the xmen into the present. Then do xmen 4 from there that way they don't screw up the continuity. And for the record whatever happened to night crawler and gambit they need some love

People are way too harsh on Fox's X-Men continuity errors.

The MCU set a benchmark but even that isn't perfect.

And don't complainers understand this movie is MEANT to show the errors of these films as two timelines

IDK about this movie. It already sounds like they're doing too much or adding people that shouldn't...just like in X-Men: The Last Stand.

I'm more curious about at what point in time from the previous X-Men films will DOFP intertwine with?

Its obvious it will be before a certain event in X3 if Stewart will be involved and possibly alive as Prof X

Sounds like they're going to fix the continuity errors. Good use of a classic story to retcon! :)

Sounds great! I hope Iceman is in ice form the whole way trough the movie.

FOX has a chance to right a lot of wrongs here! The X-Men continuity is such a mess.

@TonyChu I confirm your comment.

@SuspenseSmith I loved Animoprhs! I also picked up some of the books.

I remember they way to tell if someone is infected, is if they have an itch on the lower back part of their leg and they scratch it with their foot.

@MadameMarvel Nightcrawler was awesome in X-Men 2, so fingers crossed! And we'll get young Beast, but probably not the future version.

@Jollem Lol! What the heck is going on there? :P

Let's hope they can fix their continuity errors. If old Prof. X is in this then they may just be cutting X3 out of the continuity all together.

As long as it's a really good movie and it follows First Class really well, then I could give a damn about continuity.

Shawn's great. Love him on "The Following".

I cannot wait for this movie. It should be really really good.

The more I hear about this film the less interested i become, once Vaughn wasnt attached and shi.tty singer returned to the helm I washed my hands of it but now this wooden plank is in the film my interest has taken another nose dive...

I really wish theyd of forgotten about all previous incarnations and just started a new with 1st class which altho it had its flaws was by far the best x men film. Wouldve loved to have seen what Vaughn coulda done with a bigger budget and more time.....

Fox had a great opportunity to start again learn from the previous dull - fest that was singers x men reign and with wolverine and 1st class start a new more interesting, darker and cooler franchise but alas they havent

boo fu.cking hoo

@jackson, Singer movies are darker than Vaughn ones, if thats what you want for the sequel

The original trilogy has the core x-men. Just because some roles were a bit poor in the trilogy doesnt mean they will do the same this time, 13 years after the first movie. Times have changed, u know?

this will be better than all the previous movies, so no need to worry at all

has to have 25' sentinels. on another note though, holding the rights to a character or story is about making money right? why doesn't a production company like sony let disney lease the rights to say... spiderman... to make a cameo in a movie... [a certain amount of screentime = a certain amount of $$$]. it would seem to me that both sides win, and in the end, the characters will only have a stronger fan base...
