Who Could Have Been:Wolverine

Who could have had this comic book movie role if it had not went to Hugh Jackman.

Dougary Scott was cast, but left for work on Mission Impossible:II

Aaron Eckhart was considered

Viggo Mortenson was considered

Mel Gibson was considered

Russel Crowe was considered

Edward Norton was considered

Keanu Reeves was considered

Jeane-Claude Van Damme was considered

Gary Sinise was considered

So, I think Jackman is the best Wolverine ever and I'm glad he was casted, but if he wasn't out of all of the top I would have chosen Russel Crowe.

And for all those who were complaining over Jackman's height, you shouldn't have it really doesn't matter, and by the way Gary Sinise, Mel Gibson and Jean-Claude Van Damme are the closest to Wolverine's height

Look out for The Wolverine next year

As I recall: Van Damme and Danzig both campaigned for the part and were overlooked. Dougray Scott was cast until he broke his arm while filming MI2.

Just wanted to add some trivia. I don't know about the rest. Gibson would have been great since he does berserker/crazy in the first two "Lethal Weapon"s.

I still have the Wizard article when they were first casting the x-men characters and listed Dougary Scott.

i am actually quite happy now because none of them maybe with the exception of eckhart, morteson and reeves are in there prime physically, where as jackman even though he's 40 looks like guy whos in his 30's still, yeah he might be tall but he's still done a good job, but dougray scott would have been amazing though

oh and ed norton was born to play bruce banner, he will be missed dearly but life moves on

I remember reading that Russel Crowe was considered for wolverine and Guy Pearce was considered for cyclops as they had both starred and been successful in LA Confidential.

But Russel Crowe turned it down because he didn't want to play too similar a character to Bud White.
