WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes recently visited Marvel Studios' Burbank headquarters. In an interview promoting Street Fighter at New York Comic Con, his co-star Andrew Schulz seemed to hint that the professional wrestler and actor is part of the X-Men reboot.
Rhodes is a huge comic book fan—he's repeatedly shared his love of the X-Men in interviews—and is no stranger to acting, having delivered impressive turns in Arrow and The Naked Gun, for example.
In another Street Fighter sit-down, the former WWE Champion talked about what he geeks out about and, in the eyes of many fans, inadvertently (deliberately?) revealed his involvement with Jake Schreier highly anticipated reboot of the franchise.
"I'm an X-Men, I nerd out about that," he said, prompting a shocked Schulz to reply, "Wait, you what, what did you just say?" I thought you were making an announcement."
It's entirely possible that, to get more eyes on Street Fighter, Rhodes and Schulz are just messing with fans (and the American Nightmare, as he's known in WWE, may simply be hoping to will a role in the movie into existence). Alternatively, Rhodes may have landed a voice role in the upcoming X-Men '97 Season 3.
We'll have to wait and see, but there are a few live-action characters that Rhodes would be a good fit for. Cable is a name that keeps cropping up on social media, but someone like Sebastian Shaw would also be an interesting fit.
For now, Rhodes is busy promoting his role as Guile in Street Fighter. The movie has received mixed reactions on social media, though it does sound like a fun ride for fans of the video game franchise. The review embargo lifts today, the same day it hits theaters, so that should be interesting to keep an eye on.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
