X Men Days of Future Past: The Movie That We Want to and We Need to Happen

X-Men Days of Future past is a much anticipated movie by all X-Men fans. The return of old cast members and newer ones. This is my idea of how Days of Future Past should work and what it should fix in the X-Men franchise.

What is Days of Future Past?

Days of Future Past is a popular storyline in the Marvel Comics comic book The Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and #142, published in 1981. It deals with a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. An adult Kitty Pryde transfers her mind into her younger self, the present-day Kitty Pryde, who brings the X-Men to prevent a fatal moment in history which triggers anti-mutant hysteria.
The storyline was very popular at the time and was produced during the franchise's rapid rise to popularity due to the writer/artist team of Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Terry Austin. As a result of the storyline's popularity, the dark future seen in the story has been revisited numerous times. The first issue of this storyline was voted the 25th greatest Marvel Comic of all time by the fans in 2001.

How Can the Movie Fix the Mistakes of X-Men: First Class?

As seen in the video above there are a lot of mistakes in 2011 X-Men: First Class. Well not really mistakes how about “continuity errors”. How is this fixed? There are a couple ways

1.)Reboot it All For a Good Reason:
The time travel aspect of X-Men DOFP plays a big role in the story. The whole point of it was too change the Future. So why can’t they do it so that X-Men First Class becomes an alternate Universe then the X-Men Trilogy and Wolverines Movies. It makes sense. In the comic X-Men DOFP, once they stop the events that lead to the apocalyptic future Kitty Pryde returns to the Future and sees that she still has to live in that future since the Time Travel caused it to become an alternate timeline. If we did this in the movie then we could have the X-Men universe going on right now still existent, but then the movies could focus on the now single First Class Universe which could be a rebooted X-Men Universe.

2.)Just Say it was something it Wasn’t:
This is the less popular way. Fox could just say that X-Men First Class was already a part of the changed alternate timeline I mentioned above. Then we’d all be very confused and Fox would get more hate then they already have amongst the comic book community.

What do the X-Men have to stop in the past?

The X-Men in the movie should stop…
1. Senator Kelly’s Death

2. The Killing of JFK (yes the President)

I got most of this idea from CBM user Mark Julian. (You can check out his X-Men DOFP article here ).

In the first X-Men movie The Brotherhood killed Senator Robert Kelly. The X-Men in the future believe that this is the cause of the sentinels being made so they send Kitty Pryde back to 2000 to stop the assassination. She goes back to her timeline and realizes that the sentinels are still there and the future is still the same.

This time they send Bishop back in time to November 22nd 1963 the day JFK was killed. Magneto having had his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants for a year now planned revenge on Kennedy. Why? He planned revenge because when the mutants saved the world Kennedy took the credit for it. So he controls the bullet that kills Kennedy. People blame the mutants for killing Kennedy because Magneto later hints at it during a meeting with FBI agent that he proceeds to kill. The X-Men believe this is another reason the sentinels came. They send Bishop back in time to stop this from happening.

Wait is it just a coincidence that the Sentinels in the Danger Room are the same as the ones in the future?

This is something that was really bothering me. It doesn't make sense to me that the X-Men would just so happen to fight something in the Danger Room that ends up coming to be a reality.

I got the following idea thinking of ways I could slip Mister Sinister and Apocalypse into this movie. So I thought, Maybe Mister Sinister (disguised as one of the X-Men, let’s say Beast) was sent by Apocalypse to go back in time, snuck into the Danger Room and stole the Sentinel idea from the danger room. Then disguised as some Government person, went to 2000 and told Bolivar Trask the idea. Maybe he even set up Magneto killing JFK and Senator Kelly also. So Apocalypse has been pulling the strings and once the X-Men finish their time traveling adventures, Apocalypse goes to the Future X-Men to destroy them which leads into a sequel…with all of the X-Men past present and future.

Who are the Future X-Men?

I think the future X-Men should be a mix of X-Men from the original DOFP Storyline and other X-Men who have come about in Marvels future. The line up
1. Wolverine-James “Logan” Howlett-Hugh Jackman
2. Shadowcat-Kate “Kitty” Pryde-Ellen Page
3. Bishop-Lucas Bishop-Michael Jai White

4. Storm-Ororo Munroe-Halle Berry
5. Colossus-Piotr Rasputin-Daniel Cudmore
6. Magneto-Erik Leshnerr-Ian McKellen & Michael Fassbender
7. Nightcrawler-Kurt Wagner-Alan Cumming

So How does this all go down?

So I’ve told you all of these ideas and now I’ll tell you how they piece together

• Movie starts with a battle between the future x-men and sentinels
• In this battle Nightcrawler is killed and Colossus is captured
• The X-Men discuss how this all came to be at their base
• They come to the conclusion it was Senator Rob Kelly’s and John F. Kennedy’s death
• Bishop talks about a time traveling device he’s been working on.
• Cable suggests that we send two people back in time to prevent those events from happening
• Storm to make it clear says that the plan is two people both go back in time at the same time to different places in time
• She points out that if one of the missions is completed before the other and it fixes the timeline, but the second person is still on their mission it could ruin the whole thing
• Bishop volunteers to go back to 2963 to stop Magneto from killing JFK
• Bishop finishes to time gauntlets that send people or things back in time (obviously).
• He goes back to 1963
• He finds himself behind Magneto and Azazel on top of a roof of a building. He says something to them. Magneto and Bishop talk about Magneto’s plans and what they cause. Magneto shrugs it off an attacks Bishop. Bishop goes flying into the below ally and they fight there
• As they fight Azazel teleports onto he car that was carrying JFK
• He grabs JFK and teleports into the sky high above the city
• Azazel stops JFK and then teleports onto the roof of the building. As Bishop fights Magneto he hears a loud thud and then screaming and gasps
• He runs out of the alley to see a crowd of people running away something and a crowd of people running towards something
• Bishop realizes he left Azazel on the roof
• Magneto starts to laugh. Bishop goes back in time to right before Magneto knocks him off of the building.
• As Magneto and Bishop fight Bishop 2 fights Azazel. Azazel is winning against Bishop2. He kicks Bishop 2 into the Alley.
• Azazel teleports onto he car that was carrying JFK
• He grabs JFK and teleports into the sky high above the city
• Azazel stops JFK and then teleports onto the roof of the building. Bishop 2 get up and hears a loud thud and then screaming and gasps. Azazel had done it again. Bishop then goes back in time again to aid himself against Azazel
• Bishop 2 & 3 win against Azazel and lock him up and power reducing handcuffs from the future
• They then put another pair of the same Handcuffs on an Unconscious Magneto.
• As Bishop 3 tells Bishop 2 and Bishop the full story they here a cry out saying “NO”.
• They see Mystique holding a gun pointed at them
• Magneto and Azazel unconscious in cuffs while Bishop 2 and Bishop fight Mystique.
• Bishop turns Magneto and Azazel in to the authorities and they are sent into a mass security prison in the middle of nowhere.
• Bishop returns to the future
• Nothing has changed. He shows up in the future in the middle of a battle with the Sentinels
• Bishop aids the X-Men and the X-Men clearly start to lose hope since the future hasn’t changed.
• After the battle the X-Men win and they go to discs the mission with Bishop.
• Bishop tells them what happened, then they start to plan the next mission
• The movie cuts back to 1963.
• The Brotherhood of evil mutants are in their base discussing Magneto’s capture
• Magneto has sent them a letter from prison
• It says that Mystique would be the leader of the Brotherhood. Mystique is in awe and quickly takes her role as leader. For them to take her more seriously when she’s not blue and scaly she gets a new human appearance
• Cuts back to the future
• Kitty Pryde is about to leave to go back to the year 2000
• Sentinels attack
• Kitty quickly goes back in time
• She arrives in a helicopter
• Mystique has her feet around the neck of Senator Robert Kelly. Mystique and John are startled
• Mystique asks who Kitty was
• Kitty tells her that she was Shadowcat and that she was coming back to the past to stop what she caused to happen in the future
• Mystique takes her feet off of Kelly and lunges for Shadowcat. Shadowcat Ran through Mystique. Mystique lunges for her again and they phase through the helicopter falling out of the sky
• They tumble and fight as they fall
• Mystique transforms into Azazel a past lover and they teleport to the top of a building
• It cuts back to the helicopter and the co-pilot flies to helicopter to its destination anyway
• They cut back to Shadowcat and Mystique as they fight.
• Shadowcat realizes that fighting Mystique won’t help so she goes back to the helicopter seconds before they fall out. When Shadowcat and Mystique fall out Shadowcat 2 grabs Robert Kelly by the hand and they phase through the floor
• After falling a certain distance Shadowcat releases a parachute. She lands on a roof and tells Senator Kelly to make sure he has the best Security he can get
• Before he can ask questions Shadowcat goes back to her time.
• There is a battle with a new very powerful sentinel called Nimrod
• The X-Men struggle, but they defeat him.
• Before he shuts down
• He says…
• “No…I have failed my master…Apocalypse…
• THE END

That’s the basic outline of the movie. There are other things that happen, but those are the main points.

<>You Hinted At a Sequel, What Would the Sequel Be About?

It’d be based off of the Age of Apocalypse 1990’s storyline. This move though would feature X-Men from the original X-Men Trilogy, X-Men First Class and the X-Men from Days of Future Past. Yes three Wolverines and Magnetos running around, but who cares? The movie would eventually lead up to a giant battle between Apocalypse and Phoenix (Jean Grey) which leads to a whole other universe being formed. This is the real reboot of the X-Men franchise. They could recast characters, they couldn’t who knows…

Thanks for reading this far and I hope you liked my ideas. Constructive criticism please. Keep it on a low scale no harsh words please. If you agree say it, if you don’t say it, if you have an idea you think is better say it. Maybe I’ll like it better than my own.

Not bad you really put some thought into this you have some really good ideas. Any thoughts on who your 4 Horseman are gonna be?

@QuinlanVos Thank you. About the horsemen Do you mean the cast or the characters? The charatcers will be Abyss, Nemesis, Mr. Sinister, and Prelate Rasputin. I don't have an idea for the cast except for Mads Mikkelsen as Mr. Sinister.

It definitely needs to be ret-conned but you have be careful not to over-con volute the narrative.

Would love to see Apocolypse (prob my favourite Marvel villain of all time) on the big screen... as well as Cable but as with most posters on this site I have lost all faith in Fox ever letting go of the purse strings or ever getting their geek on.

Maybe the whole other universe that is formed is the MCU which connects the Avengers films and the X-men films and further expands the marvel universe

I'd prefer it if the Horsemen weren't really people, but altered individuals who are pretty much programmed and brainwashed by Mr Sinister to serve as their symbolic namesake.

For instance:
Sentinels would be on the rise. Sinister, who has an almost omnipotent skill set (in the comics, it seems), would find a way to install his own safeguards into just about every Sentinel across the country (or world, if it's that expansive). No, they would not fall under his control, no, they would not start attacking mutants at random, nor would they start attacking humans because of the blurry definition of a "mutant"..... they would have an electromagnetic BOMB inside them. Sentinels go boom, and everything electronic that the world has begun to rely on will no longer function. "London is about to enter the stone age."

That's Famine.

As I mentioned, kidnapping would be very much incorporated. As much as I hate to be unoriginal, it makes the most sense - Rogue would be one of Sinister's victims. Consider her power, how it manifested when she was kissing a boy, and how it's been a curse on her life ever since. Recently in the comics, her absorption powers have been played with to the point where she can now control when she wants to use them. As it happens, Sinister would put her powers under his control, and she would take flight: putting dozens of leaders in comas while learning their embarrassing and vital secrets.

That's Pestilence.

Before that even happens, we'll need someone to engineer a constantly escalating level of tension between mutants and humans. Why? Well as Apocalypse deems: only the strong survive. In keeping with Mr Sinister's lordship over Apocalypse's many transgressions while plotting to surpass him, we will put our mad scientist's shapeshifting powers to grand use here. The man who meets with the world's leaders, the man who addresses Congress, the man who lives in the White House - will be replaced by Mr Sinister. Sounds kind of like what GI Joe is doing, but I had this in mind years before the first movie was even in production - not that it matters.

That's War.

The last Horseman is a bit more complex, but not exactly subtle. In keeping with the most notorious incarnation, Angel would be the kidnapped mutant who gets his wings clipped. Scratch that, he'd get his wings decimated by a Sentinel. Also in keeping with the comics, Angel would become extremely depressed by this great loss and take on a devil-may-care attitude. He'd take to flying the Worthington jet, and stowed aboard would be his kidnappers - the Marauders, specifically Riptide. The jet would crash, a body would be found among the wreckage, and Angel would be presumed dead. Of course he isn't, and Sinister is outfitting him with prosthetic wings. He'd be brainwashed to hate all mutants, and would serve as the Marauders' leader - hunting down and slaying mutants to draw out the X-Men.

That's Death.

Dunno how it'd work with continuity as it is, but yeah. Carry on.

I genuinely don't understand this desire that people have to shoehorn Apocolypse into DOFP. There's plenty of story to work with as it is without cramming in a villian with no relevance to the story. The film needs to focus on one storyline, not two. This was a large part of the problem with X3, trying to fit in both the cure and the Dark Phoenix story lines and doing justice to neither.

I really like Apocalypse and think Age of Apocalypse would (and hopefully will) make a great movie but I IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY want to see him (or Sinister) in DOFP.

kong - 3/25/2013, 6:44 AM
Does anyone realize that Apocalypse isn't in this movie at all! All of the comments are about Age of Apocalypse even though apocalypse and Mr. sinister are not the villains in the movie at all!.
TheLibrarian

My comment was aimed more at the Apocalypse chat in general (which there has been a worrying amount of) rather than specifically at your fan-film.

However, even though Apocolypse doesn't feature directly in your story, your ending implies that he was behind the Sentinels which 1) completely defeats the purpose of the story and 2) makes no sense.

Firstly, the story is about the results of man's intolerance and bigotry towards mutants. Men caused this future. Men create the sentinels out of fear and ignorance of mutants. The theme of racism is massively important and to jettison it entirely would make the whole story worthless.

Secondly, the creation of the Sentinels is triggered by the assassination of Senator Kelly. Naturally this will be different in the movie as they have already stated that it mostly takes place in the 70's (which also rules out Kennedy). Regardless of the target, it makes no sense for the assassination of a human political figure to trigger a plan from Apocalypse. If Apocalypse was behind the Sentinels then stopping the assassination is not likely to make any difference whatsoever, again defeating the point of the story.
kong
kong - 3/25/2013, 10:57 AM
@TheLibrarian

Yeah he was behind the sentinels through Mister Sinister through the humans. He wasn't the master of the Sentinels he just built a even bigger hate for mutants so that the sentinels would be created. The humans wouldn't see a point in creating the sentinels if they weren't already racist to the mutants. Just brainwashing one person doesn't make the whole country think oh yeah let's go a long with this. Now maybe if they already hated them and they attempted to kill to major U.S officials the hate would rise even more so that it wouldn't be an idea out of the blue when the sentinels are released to the public. The whole point of Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse was to get the worlds mutants in a very small number so that it would be easier for them to take the world for themselves. Nimrod was a Sentinel sent specifically from Mr. Sinister because the X-Men were coming a little to powerful. Maybe I should've posted the plot in full.

The other things is you do remember that stopping the death of JFK didn't work right? Exactly! It didn't work for a reason. It was one a way to get in the older X-Men and build up the hate towards mutants and show how evil Magneto was starting to become. The kidnapping of Senator Kelly in no way triggered a plan from Apocalypse it was a part of the plan for Apocalypse

Mystique transforms into Azazel a past lover and they teleport to the top of a building....

Mystique can't do that, you would need copy-cat for that.

just sayin, though i suppose it's not beyond fox to give her that power.

@TheBeard Yes she can. She couldn't in the 60's she can do that. How do you explain how she changes into other mutants and uses there powers. That's like saying if she changed into usain bolt she wouldn't be fast. She gains the appearance and abilities of the people she copies.

How about this-
Opens on wolverine in the future. Probably about twenty years after the event of last stand. The sentinels are in total rule. Wolverine narrates as he, an older storm, an old nightcrawler, shadowcat, colossus, psylocke and bishop.
I like the thing about nightcrawler dying in the first battle.
Since the movie takes place in the seventies and shadowcat did not exist back then they use wolverine and psylocke's telepathy to switch his consciousness between his past and future self. He warns young Xavier of the future and Xavier explains that his mere presence in the past has altered reality itself and the world he has know. Is gone. Wolverine persists they can save the future. Magneto who has raised two young mutants. Scarlet witch and her brother quicksilver has them, mystique, and Avalanche in his brotherhood.
Xavier has only beast, and four young mutants: forge, anole, dazzler all of whom are under his tutilage.
Wolverine and the xmen suit up to stop the attack on Washington.
Wolverine sees a little red headed girl in the attack, on lonely about four years old he realizes it is young Jean and is taken by surprise when he is taken down by magneto.
Quicksilver betrays magneto. Like the ultimate version. Quicksilver uses his speed to take the helmet of magnetos head so Xavier can put him in a coma. Meanwhile forge, dazzler and anole battle avalanche and mystique. Mystique knocks out dazzler and makes her way to kill the senator (possibly bolivar trask. Not Kelly) who is suggesting mutant registration. Beast takes down avalanche to save Forge and Anole Beast then truss to persuade his exlover mystique to obstain from killing the senator. She looks like she is about to listen to beast but she then resolves to kill the senator just as quicksilver stops her. In a fit of rage the only brother hood member left : scarlet witch is about to kill professor Xavier (who was injured and thrown from his wheelchair just before taking down magneto) with a hex bolt when she is stabbed through the chest by wolverine. Her reality warping powers explode and seemingly disintegrateing wolverine. Changing reality and completely revising any x-men mythology from anypoint after the events of Days of Future Past (leaving First Class relevant and its mythology intact). Wolverine wakes up in Alberta Canada and (reverted back to present conciousnesshas no recollection of these events. Flash to the future. Wolverine with his future consciousness wakes up in a bed in westchester at the mansion. Where Professor X, Scott and Jean are all still alive. The team made up of him, Jean, storm, Scott, shadowcat, colossus, iceman and nightcrawler. With beast serving as a retired veteran and a mutant rights activist in washington... and there's your [frick]in movie. You're welcome FOX

@Vision really good, but it's the length of a fan-film. I could see this play out in a 15 minute fan-film. It'd be really good, but that's how i picture it.
