At D23 last month, Marvel Studios announced several of the main cast members for its X-Men reboot. One of the biggest surprises was relative unknown Maya Boyd as Storm, a character we didn't necessarily expect to debut in this movie.
Alexandra Shipp played Ororo Munroe in the more recent X-Men movies from 20th Century Fox, but it was Halle Berry who made the role iconic. Now, the Oscar winner has broken her silence on Boyd taking over the role of Storm in the MCU.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Berry celebrated the casting and shared her excitement to see what the newcomer does with the role.
"I believe she's going to kill it. You know what I mean?" the actress started. "Yeah, there's people playing Storm. No, my Storm was my Storm, and I wish her so well."
Berry continued, "I very much look forward to seeing what her version will be. I’m sure she’s going to murder it. And what I love is the same thing happened with Catwoman. Everybody has their version of who that character is and how they internalize it."
Will Berry get one final chance to play Storm before the Multiverse Saga ends? As of now, it doesn't look like the mutant will appear alongside her fellow X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, but we'd be shocked if she isn't in Avengers: Secret Wars.
When we spoke with Berry for Never Let Go in 2024, we asked about her future as Storm, and she replied, "[Shrugs] You never know. We'll find out! [Laughs]"
There have been rumblings about a storyline explanation for the absence of characters like Storm and Jean Grey, but that may be a result of negotiations with some returning X-Men stars not working out.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
