Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

X-Men: Apocalypse is once again directed by Bryan Singer, and is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2016.

I don't get why the xmen (current day) are so against colorful suits and instead use either black leather or plastic material

@Maniac - well costumes dont make a good film amazing spiderman duology and green lantern can tell u that much. so far all singer xmen films are better than most cbms so as long as its a good film it wont matter

@Maniac - even nolan took away batmans blue and gray, yellow symbol/belt and used burtons/singers all black color palette and he made good films as long as the characters and themes are relatable colors wont matter

@Maniac - but I don't think fancy costumes are a necessity to be a good adaptation that's my point. I think it adds to the fan service but it doesn't make a film better or worse. As long as the overall theme and characters are true to the source, such as he humanitarian and civil rights, its a good adaptation which I think the x-men films are doing a pretty good job at.

@TheEpicJuicebox - have you read the winter soldier arc and out of time? Winter soldier is a good "film" and it strays pretty far from the comic source. It wasn't good b/c of the costumes nor did it need it to be a good film. It was good b/c it added the bourne identity themes about security, government conspiracies, and surveillance which all mcu films before it were afraid to tackle "un-Disney-like themes". Batroc the Leaper didn't have his mask and one of the biggest complaints about current MCU films are that the heroes barely wear their mask/helmet anymore?

@TheEpicJuicebox - have you seen guardians of the galaxy/ antman or read their comics? Probably the loosest adaptation of a comic book and they were still good films due to character and story. Peter quill nor antman wasn't suppose to be a douchebag iron man to the max nor is yondu/yellow jacket's characters are even close to the comics. it was just a good "film" and they changed some characters costumes too especially antman?

@Maniac - but the characters are true to the source yet even less 1-dimensional as in the comics. they only changed minor things, like Xavier's heritage and militant background in the army, magneto finding an ancient relic and being young/diesel as hell, wolverine's Canadian nationalism was changed but their most important aspect was kept which is the "motives/sybolism". the singer films in my opinion made the malcom x/martin luther king jr and the outcast themes more important than the comic aspects like fighting the shi ar empire on the moon. That's where I think the biggest change was, he focused more on the humane themes rather than the adventures.

After Deadpool gave us a taste of a colorful, more animated version of the xmen, with JUST COLOSSUS AND NEGASONIC, I feel like I'm gonna find Xmen Apocalypse to be subpar. I'll appreciate the performances (Fassbender and McAvoy always kill it and they're perfect in their roles; Isaac will prob own too), but the overall atmosphere and mythology Singer provides may turn me off.

I liked the energy Miller brought to the X Universe. It was kinetic, fun and intense.

To paraphrase a classic: "How ya gonna keep the fans down in Singerville, after they've seen the Millerverse?"

Bryan Singer has never had any interest in the comics as anything more than very rough and broad inspiration. Barely more faithful than the old serials where Captain America is a District Attorney named Grant Gardner. He and Fox squandered their time travel reboot (probably the height of the franchise). Rather starting fresh, Singer selfishly used it to wipe away the continuity that he didn't like, especially from other directors, and then to settle back into the same narrow, dull niche that X-Men never should have been pidgeonholed into in the first place.

There's a reason Deadpool may end up being the highest grossing X-Men film, despite having the smallest budget and least accessible rating. And it's clear from the marketing material. Every X-Men movie poster tries to sell a random cast of actors trying to look generically badass, hoping that the audience will think: "I recognize that guy, I guess I'll see this movie". Deadpool's marketing sells the character.

@Spock0Clock - And that's coming from a guy who has liked all the X-Men films minus 2009's Wolverine.

I'm not sure what the "can't go back to singer's x-men after deadpool" sentiment is all about. I enjoyed Deadpool, but to me it wasn't close to the level of X2, First Class, and DOFP.

Some of you lot care way too much about costumes, and not the quality of the actual films.
