BOX OFFICE: THE WOLVERINE Set To Nab The #2 Spot As 2 GUNS Opens At #1

It was thought that The Smurfs 2 would be battling it out with 2 Guns this weekend for the #1 spot, but it now looks likely that the BOOM! Studios adaptation will take the top spot with The Wolverine not too far behind in second place. Read on for details!

2 Guns has opened with an estimated $10 - 11.5 million today and now looks set to overperform this weekend in North America with a predicted three day total of $32 million. That's a pretty damn good result for the R-Rated action/comedy which only cost $61 million to produce. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the star power of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg has been more than enough to help make the movie a success. Universal were expecting the BOOM! Studios adaptation to open in the mid twenties at most. However, the biggest surprise this weekend is James Mangold's The Wolverine. It suffered a 67% drop this week, but after taking between $6 - 8 million today, it now looks set to nab second place with an expected $21 million total. That leaves The Smurfs 2 in third place with an extremely disappointing $16 million weekend. With a five day cume of $25.5 million, that means it will have taken a good $10 million less than Sony expected. However, overseas is another matter altogether and it looks set to decimate any and all competition.
