BOX OFFICE: TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D Opens At #1; DJANGO UNCHAINED Lands At #2

Despite The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey initially being predicted to be #1 at the box office again this weekend, it looks like Texas Chainsaw 3D will remove the film's 3-week streak. Meanwhile, Django Unchained makes it to second place.

Originally, it was expected that Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey would be #1 at the box office for a fourth week in a row, with Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw 3D (the biggest new release this weekend) debuting at #2. The slasher film, which is described as a direct sequel to the 1974 original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, was initially projected to gross somewhere in the mid-teens in its opening weekend. However, the movie has now surpassed expectations and grossed $10.2 million on Friday, putting it in the #1 spot. It's now projected to gross somewhere in the $20 million range this weekend. Another surprise sees Quentin Tarantino's revenge thriller Django Unchained grossing $6.2 million and dropping only 36%. While it's possible that these films' R-ratings will prevent them from outgrossing the PG-13 The Hobbit and Les Miserables this weekend, it appears that Texas Chainsaw will keep the former from reaching a four-week winning streak. Meanwhile, The Hobbit grossed $5.2 million, putting it in third place, while Les Mis is right behind it with $5 million.

The Hobbit recently crossed $500 million overseas, and has currently grossed nearly $765 million worldwide. Django Unchained has so far grossed an impressive $92 million domestically. What do you plan on seeing at the movies this weekend?

Is it a reboot? Yes and no. It's apparently a direct sequel to the first movie released in '74, but it ignores the events of the other movies that came out after. Sounds like Superman Returns.

Texas Chainsaw.. was so unbelievably bad that I wanted to leave. I have never wanted to leave a movie before, and I've seen some pretty bad movies. I only stayed because it was with my girlfriend.

It was really bad. Please don't give them more money to make another one..

Basically it takes place after the events of every other movie, and is modern. They try to go for some 'Halloween' rip offs, and they try to give some complexity to Leatherface, note: I said they TRY, but they only half-try, and they shit the bed.

Every horror movie cliche, every stupid as shit decision and motive.

Both Skyfall and The Hobbit still to be released in China, Hobbit looks like it could do very close to a Billion by its final run.
