Deadline reports that Universal wants Harry Potter's David Yates to direct Universal’s planned remake/reboot of the famous Scarface franchise which spawned two movies, comic books from IDW, a novel from Dark Horse Comics’ imprint DH Press and two video games.

From the report:

"Understanding that, the studio according to my sources has been refining the script with several screenwriters and drafts while keeping all names and details under wraps. “Universal has been through a couple of drafts and now is very high on the current draft. The first stop is the director. This is before any conversations on talent or timing.” I’ve learned that the studio is in final talks with British director David Yates who directed the final four films in the Harry Potter film series (#s 5, 6, 7, and 8 from 2007-2011)."

What do you think about that?

Why....just why?

Any actor taking over the role after Al Pacino's performance is either very brave or desperate for work....

Yes because I know Scarface from the comic series and video games...

Listen I've seen Twilight stuff posted on this site. You don't need a reason or correction to comic books to post Scarface. It's Scarface.

The Pacino Scarface was a reboot, remake, whatever you want to call it. You people are bitching about reboots and remakes yet this movie would not exist without them.

Remaking a remake of an original, sounds like something Hollywood would do.

I don't believe anyone above are complaining about the "remake of a remake", i believe they are complaining about the remake of a classic, which consisted of a legendary performance by Pacino.

I know Scarface (1983) was itself a remake, my point was they nailed it, so why remake yet again?

@marvel72, its got a lot more in common than just the name. The basis of the story is exactly the same, just updated for the times.

movies have been re made since the early 1900's...I dont get why ppl dont like them...yes some should be left alone...but if its been remade for newer audience once. then why not again. There are a lot of older movies that i enjoy the new take on bc some old cinema is just not to my liking and reminds me of plays and the acting is subpar. i loed the remake of romeo and juliet by baz, some ppl know how to take an idea and make it better or display it better.

This is one of the worst tragedies in cinema history!

Scarface was a classic, De Palma's crowning jewel, and Pacino's second best performance(IMHO, behind Scent of a Woman). Also, the 30's Scarface with Paul Muni was amazing as well.

Could you imagine someone remaking The Godfather? Or Gone with the Wind? Or Casablanca? Certain things just should not be [frick]ed with.

Leave Tony Montana alone, let him rest in peace as part of the greatest drug movie of all time!
