Die Hard is the ideal 1980s action film, one that has defined several tropes throughout the past few decades. The film has even spawned its own sub genre of copycats, with the latest being Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper, which just hit theaters last weekend.

Since the film has gained its status as a classic, a debate has always been stirring questioning whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not. The majority of fans have joined the former camp, claiming that its setting and themes of family have a huge influence on its identity. During the taping of comedy Central's Bruce Willis roast, the action star had something to say about the matter.

Towards the end of the taping, Willis took a chance to address the fans, specifically stating that “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, it's a goddamn Bruce Willis movie,” adding more fire to the famous debate in front of the live audience. When approached later on, the star was asked how he thinks fans would respond to the statement. He simply said “We’ll see.”

Do you think Die Hard is a Christmas movie?

@dracula - I live the Lethal Weapon series. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to make a TV series out of this. It just doesn't work without the iconic duo of Gibson and Glover.

@L0RDbuckethead - Christmas Carol?
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 7/15/2018, 10:48 PM
@L0RDbuckethead - perhaps I would place Die Hard 2 at number 4. I also really do like Krampus.

A Christmas Story is kind of overdone and overhyped for me. After too many years of 24 hour marathons of that movie on TV, the movie really loses its appeal. I change the channel every time its on TV anymore.

@Kevwebsz - Ooh that's a good one. I find it hard to rank because there have been so many iterations of that particular Dickens story. Which one spefically? I wasn't really a fan of the Jim Carrey animated one.

Also, I could add The Santa Clause to the honorable mentions, just the first one though. Those sequels sucked.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah, see my response to @Kevwebsz about A Christmas Carol - I basically feel the same. I personally don't consider the Die Hard films to be Christmas movies, they just take place at Christmastime, much like Iron Man 3 or Gremlins. But I see the case that could be made for all those types of films.

@L0RDbuckethead - Lol, forgot about Gremlins. Yes, its not a TRUE Christmas film (Die Hard that is), but its a christmas movie. The best TRUE Christmas film for me is Christmas Vacation. My family watches that every Christmas, such a fantastic film.

@marvel72 - In my comment to HeavyMetal4Life: "I personally don't consider the Die Hard films to be Christmas movies, they just take place at Christmastime, much like Iron Man 3 or Gremlins"

To add to that, Home Alone 1 & 2, Deadpool, Die Hard 1 & 2, Gremlins, Iron Man 3, Edward Scissorhands, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Batman Returns, Trading Places, The Thin Man, and Lethal Weapon are some examples of films I'd consider 'take place at Christmas', not true 'Christmas' films.

@Nebula - I like it, Elf is definitely one I forgot. Will Ferrell is one of the best and Buddy the Elf is a classic Christmas character. Arthur Christmas wasn't one I had considered but I like the mention.
