FURIOSA: Filming Is Underway On MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Spinoff Starring Anya Taylor-Joy & Chris Hemsworth

We're heading back into the world of Mad Max, as it's been revealed that filming has commenced on George Miller's Furiosa, which will star Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in the lead roles!

After revealing the film's official logo at CinemaCon earlier this year, Warner Bros. and Roadshow Entertainment have officially started production on Furiosa, their long-awaited Mad Max: Fury Road prequel/spinoff from Academy Award-winning director George Miller.

Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit; The New Mutants) headlines the cast, starring as a younger take on Imperator Furiosa, inheriting the role from Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron; while Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and ThunderAvengers: Endgame) is set to play the film's lead villain.

While it was rumored that he might have been cast as a young Immortan Joe, it's now believed he will actually play an original character created exclusively for this film.

The studios should make a more formal announcement in the coming days, and we will likely learn a lot more about the supporting cast, which has been shrouded in mystery thus far. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom; Candyman) was previously attached to a leading role but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Filming will take place in New South Wales, and the production is expected to be Australia's largest-ever, reportedly set to infuse at least $350 million AUD into the local economy and create approximately 850 jobs for locals.

Furiosa opens in theaters on May 24, 2024.

Wonder when mad max 5 will happen

If miller dies before that happens wonder if Gibson would be willing to direct

@dracula - I think the only one who should continue the franchise (or reboot it) when Miller is gone, is Mel.

@TheHumanSpider2 - would love to see Mel play a villain or if he is up for it, maybe after hardy's last movie, an old man max movie

"Chris Hermsworth"

"Anya Taylor-Joy"

Nothing against Anya, but that is Charlize Theron's role, I see absolute no point of making a Furiosa movie...without Furiosa.

Still trust Grampa Miller, though, and will check this movie out...but zero expectations.

@Walken - She has been damn good and captivating to watch in everything I’ve seen her in, even if the product as a whole was a steaming pile of shit.

@Deklipz - She is pretty good...but Charlize is Furiosa.
I understand they recasting Max in 2015, but I dont understand they recasting Furiosa in 2022...was Theron even aproached?

I can't wait. Miller's back behind the camera, Anya's great in everything, Hemsworth's been an effective villain in other stuff, and no Tom Hardy in sight!

It's about damn time. They talked about this before Mad Max even released. Charlize was awesome in that film.

@dracula - Mad Max 5?

This man is almost 80 years old. I don't know how he's gonna do it, or even how he is doing it right now. Damn.

@dracula - Am I the only one here who think Fury Road was already a Furiosa film, with Max in a supporting role?

I’m excited for this since I loved Fury Road but hopefully we get a direct sequel with Tom Hardy in the near future.

I love Fury Road, I can't get into the older ones though. But, Mel Gibson could have easily been in Fury Road.

Mel should play the younger Immorten Joe

What a waste.
Hemsworth is such a subpar actor. Perfect as Thor but everything else? Eh. Even worse as a villain lol.

Miller should have made MM with either Tom Hardy or even better Mel Gibson in the lead role.

Nathan Jones is back as Rictus Erectus

and even Angus Sampson who played The Organic Mechanic

Immortan Joe will probably be played by another actor since the great Hugh Keays-Byrne passed away :(

Didn't actually expect this to go into production, so this is a nice surprise. Hope it's gonna be as crazy as Road Warrior or Fury Road
