Quentin Tarantino has reportedly hired a writer to pen a movie adaptation of his Django/Zorro Dynamite/DC Vertigo comic series.

According to Collider, the One Upon a Time... In Hollywood director has enlisted Jerrod Carmichael (Ramy, the 48 Hours remake) to pen the screenplay for the film, which would serve as a sequel to 2012's Django Unchained. In the comic, Django (Jamie Foxx) continues his career as a bounty hunter and teams-up with an ageing Diego de la Vega, aka the legendary Zorro, to free the local indigenous people from slavery.

It doesn't sound like this project is officially a go at Sony just yet, and if it is it's in the very early stages of development. It's also unclear if Tarantino intends to helm the film himself, although it's certainly possible. The director has always maintained that he'd retire after his 10th film, and after OUATIH, there's one more spot on the list.

What do you guys think of this news? Any interest in a Django/Zorro movie? Sound off below.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood looks excellent. Most hyped film for the rest of the year.

@tmp3 - Hope Tarantino does something like his older stuff, probably no chance of getting Double V Vega or Kill Bill Vol 3

@tmp3 - Knowing Quentin, this ain't gonna happen. Also, he's gonna retire once he turns 60 and seeing as he's 56 now and it takes dude around 3 years to complete a film, Once Upon a Time could very well be his last film.

Anyway, shout out to Fran Drescher. Haven't seen that bitch in a while.

I never knew this was a thing. Django Unchained is one of my top 5 favorite films. I need to buy these comics now and I need them to make this film.

@BreakTheCode - Django was originally going to be in Hateful Eight

I loved Django Unchained. On the one hand, this sounds awesome... on the other I'd be disappointed if Tarantino's last film is a sequel (he considers both Kill Bills as one film iirc), if he's still sticking to that 10 films a year thing. His take of Zorro could be super cool though.

Also, I wonder if Trekantino is still happening

@tmp3 - It sounds like he is just producing not writing or directing.

At the end of the movie, Thomas, Martha and Bruce leave the theater and the parents are gunned down in the alley.

@Reeds2Much - Before getting shot, Thomas Wayne gives his son a monologue about how Superman was born Superman and how Clark Kent was his alter ego to represent how he sees us or something.

Interesting. I heard that The Hateful 8 was originally meant to be a Django sequel. But I didn't know about the comic series, can't wait to read it.

I'd love to see this happen, but Tarantino won't direct if he's hired someone else to write it. He's always considered himself more of a writer, and his scripts are sacrosanct on his sets, so there's no way he'd direct anyone else's writing. Likelihood is he'll produce it, which will probably be the avenue he takes when he retires from directing.

@AC1 - Tarantino is a great writer, only person I can think of that writes dialogue that good is Joss Whedon
