Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail is reporting that Naomie Harris' Eve Moneypenny won't be stuck behind a desk for the next James Bond film, even though her character at the end of Skyfall stated that she was retiring from field work to become Mallory's personal secretary. "Director Sam Mendes, Craig, and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are all big fans of Naomie’s and don’t want her to be too desk-bound," Baz reports, "as other Moneypennys have been. ‘The idea formulating in Bond-land is for Naomie to be much more of a sidekick to James, and for her to get out and harm the bad guys,’ an executive close to the production told me. John Logan is still in the process of writing script. Bond 24 won't hit UK theaters until October 23th, 2015 and November 6th, 2015 in the US.

Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in SKYFALL, the 23rd installment of the longest-running film franchise in history. In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past returns to haunt her. 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. When Bond's latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked forcing M to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows - aided only by field agent Eve (Naomie Harris) - following a trail to the mysterious Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves.

Didn't they end Skyfall with her getting a desk job because she wasn't suited to field work? Wasn't that her entire Skyfall story?

No, reading isn't challenging for me, and I am not kidding you. That it is addressed in the article doesn't change the questions I would have for these people. What was the point of her story in the first movie if you're going to right away negate it in the next one?

You mean, just like in Skyfall?

I like this idea!

Sure, the last film ended with the explicit message that Moneypenny was gonna be jockeying a desk for the next sixty or so years, but Naomie Harris was simply too interesting a Moneypenny to be consigned to a single scene at the beginning of the damn movie from now on-- not to mention, she was pretty freakin' good in the action sequences she appeared in!

Making her Bond's quasi-sidekick (perhaps this time against her will-- the chips are down, and she's the only person Bond can trust) should give the next film a good kick in the action and fun department, as well as an added sense of continuity from the last film (the lack of which has always pissed me off about the Bond films-- Quantum of Solace notwithstanding).

@ckal and BackwardGalaxy: Keep in mind-- the way she gets roped into being his "sidekick" could be completely unexpected for her-- thus maintaining the integrity of her arc from the last film while allowing her to help Bond in this one. Think Simon Pegg in Mission: Impossible III.

@TheFox - I'm sure easy to think up any number of scenarios that include her having an expanded and action-oriented role. It just feels cheap. Skyfall felt like it was trying its hardest to celebrate all the typical Bond tropes, which to me, felt like a cop-out after they had just gone to so much trouble to re-invent the series. The final scene was like "weeeeeee, we're back to classic Bond!" And now they're immediately turning back around and going in a different direction. It feels like a giant middle finger.

"What was the point of her story in the first movie if you're going to right away negate it in the next one?"

Why have any character's story change from one film to another, right? I mean, why not have every character stay static, and not develop? One way to do that would be to assure that the characters are never challenged. No new threats. Let's have Bond continue to repeat the same adventures over and over and over. That would be GREAT!

@WorstFanEver - Your sarcasm doesn't make your point for you. I'm not suggesting static character work. I'm suggesting consistent character work and not having sequels that completely undermine everything accomplished in the films that came before.

Also, they aren't saying that she will be abandoning her desk, "negating" her role at the end of the last film.

"..don’t want her to be too desk-bound."

By that, it would appear that she will retain her (desk-bound) duties as secretary to M, while going out on occasion to lend some support to Bond. Works for me. She was great in "Skyfall".

The Daily Fail is a joke. If they said it was sunny outside I'd actually look out the window to check.

She's an interesting character, but she's pretty much the worst field agent ever. She makes rookie mistakes like touching her ear, she can't drive worth a cent, and she SHOT James Bond with a SNIPER RIFLE.

Anyway, I thought her whole character arc in Skyfall was about her not being suited to field work. I like that she is in it, but I would rather them focus on other supporting characters.

I don't mind this development. Her role as a sort of on-site contact with Bond in Skyfall was very compelling, and a nice change-up for the lovely Moneypenny.

I was disappointed when they relegated her to desk duty in "Skyfall". I liked to think that it was ruse, and she would still be active in the field, maybe keeping tabs on Bond.

Makes no sense putting her out in the field again in any capacity. They set up her character as one not suited for the field and she is in all respects M's secretary, not James's. The previous movies always ignored the fact that in the books James has his own secretary and an office. In no way, shape or form does this development make any sense for covert operations of any level having the secretary or personal assistant of the head of the secret service exposed in the field considering the level of intelligence that passes through her role on a daily basis.

Sounds good to me! I don't have a problem with Moneypenny going out in the field from time to time. That's a welcome change.

@fettastic Your nitpicking about the shower scene is random. If it wasn't consensual, Serevine would have swatted Bond away or worse.

That's a bold move though. I do the "We should shower together... I'm thinking green, you know, conserving water for the environment" approach.

@BackwardGalaxy - i don't know why all the morons on this page are giving you a hard time. You've hit it on the head. The entire arc for her character in the last film is that she IS good at what she does, but she's not great in the field.

@fettastic reading in general isn't hard. I was just trying to save you the embarrassment in the future by letting you know in a nice way that nobody gives a shit what your long drawn out comments say, and no one actually reads them. But I think you get the picture now. And thanks for keeping your comments under 3 pages this time.
