THE LAST SAMURAI Director Ed Zwick Set To Reunite With Tom Cruise For JACK REACHER 2

The upcoming sequel to the 2012 hit Jack Reacher may have just found its director! It's being reported that Ed Zwick has officially signed on to direct the action sequel, which will reunite him with his The Last Samurai star Tom Cruise. Come check it out!

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Paramount and Skydance have enlisted both Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz to re-write Richard Wenk's script for the upcoming sequel to their 2012 hit Jack Reacher. Zwick has also signed on to direct the yet-to-be titled sequel, which will reunite the Academy Award-winner with megastar Tom Cruise, who he directed in the critically acclaimed 2003 film The Last Samurai. Cruise will also produce alongside Chris McQuarrie and Don Granger.

The original Jack Reacher grossed over $218M worldwide on about a $60M budget, and managed to do very well on home video raking in another $23M or so, which made green lighting a sequel a no-brainer for the studios. Jack Reacher 2 is set to adapt Never Go Back, a more recent Lee Child novel, which finds Cruise's titular hero back at his old military base and quickly caught up in a conspiracy involving old colleagues, love interests, and deeply held grudges. The novel was extremely well-received, so hopes for the upcoming film adaptation are quite high. 

Currently, Ed Zwick is finishing up his biographical drama Pawn Sacrifice, which stars Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man) and Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Elsewhere, superstar Tom Cruise recently finished up the high-octane action sequel Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which is expected to hit theaters July 31st.

Awesome movie. Jack Reacher was filmed in Pittsburgh, which automatically made it cool. And Jai Courtney was actually good in it, which gives me hope for Captain Boomerang.

Jack Reacher was a great film. It's a lot like John Wick where they start off with a great film and with word of mouth it is good enough to have a sequel.

I had no idea people liked Jack Reacher. I personally thought it was a turd.

Having the guy that did The Last Samurai makes me care a little bit about a sequel.

1st one was underrated; I had a lot of fun with it, especially the car chase. I miss classic car chase scenes and this one was an excellent modern take on them. The movie opened my eyes to Jai Courtney's acting ability which is why I was/am on board with him as Captain Boomerang. Two thumbs up for this sequel; looking forward to it.

I didnt watch Jack Reacher. Cruise was coming out with movies left and right at the time, seemed like it would be like all the others. Is it worth the watch?

I loved Jack Reacher. Much better than the action-y shoot 'em up it was advertised to be. Still plenty of action, but a very engaging, refreshing movie. Bring on number 2!

Guys. Read any single Jack Reacher book. Then watch the movie again.
The casting of Tom Cruise is probably the worst casting decisions ever made.
Secondly, its not a comic book. This isnt news.
Thirdly, the next SuperPowerBeatDown should be Reacher VS The Punisher. Reacher would win but it would be a great fight

Reacher was a good flick. It's characters were compelling, the story was an interesting mystery that we got to solve alongside the hero, and the fast pace of the movie keeps you engaged. I think in a lot ways, the director was responsible for taking an already good movie up an extra notch. I look forwar to this next installment. I give Cruise kudos for working so much. One of these days, he'll start to look and move his actual age, and then he'll no longer be convincing as an action hero. Until then, we're getting some of his best work, especially with the MI films getting better and better. He may be a weird dude, but he's still easily the most profitable and prolific actor at out there.

Ed Awick was actually my top choice for Black Panther. I guess this means he is definitely out of the equation.

Loved Glory, Last Samurai, Legends of the Fall, Blood Diamond and Defiance.
