Deadline reports that Tom Cruise has come to a deal with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star in a fifth instalment of Mission Impossible. This has been confirmed by the studio, but there's currently no word on a release date or who is being brought on board to write and direct. However, the site has reportedly heard that the studio are eyeing up Christopher McQuarrie as director. He previously directed Cruise in Jack Reacher (a sequel to which is also said to be in development). Either way, it's believed that deal to put a writer and director in place will be finalised shortly. J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot will help develop the project. The Brad Bird helmed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol went on to gross over $700 million worldwide on a $145 million budget, although there's currently no word on whether Jeremy Renner - who was at one point being lined up to replace Cruise - will return. Looking forward to both the films, every time I dismiss a Tom Cruise flick, I watch in on DVD and I keep being genuinely suprised and pleased by them. I could do without Renner in it but I hope they bring back they keep the team dynamic and chemistry that the Mission impossible movies. Since The Town, i have not been impressed by Renner, I am a big fan of his, but i only say that because I know he's capable of bringing more to his characters. I was hugely dissapointed with his portrayal of the character in Bourne Legacy and I am not fully convinced he's the one to carry the MI franchise post Tom Cruise. Just my opinion.

Can he stop making these. The stories are always the same, the action too. He's half a century and the only guy cool enough to do action and spy films over 50 is Liam Neeson. I'm supposed to believe that a 5'7 spy is the top spy in IMF?????? A 50 year old spy?????? I'm just sick of Cruise being in so much shit. If Oblivion cast a younger more charismatic actor, it would've e been better. Someone like Hemsworth or Armie Hammer.

Jack Reacher was decent also. Not against a sequel for that either.
