With Marvel Studios moving Black Widow to July, this year's summer movie season will kick off with the arrival of Guy Ritchie's action thriller Wrath of Man, which stars badass extraordinaire Jason Statham (Hobbs and Shaw; The Meg) as a cold and mysterious man named H who is on the hunt for the people responsible for his son's murder.
The film is based on the 2004 French film Cash Truck and is already out in a number of international territories, including Russia and Australia, where it's received a highly positive reception.
Ritchie shared the official red band trailer yesterday, teasing some of the bloody action we can expect, and has also provided us with a pair of clips.
This will be the fourth collaboration between Ritchie (Aladdin; The Gentleman) and Statham and their first project together in nearly sixteen years, joining Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, Snatch in 2000, and Revolver in 2005.
In addition to Statham as the leading man, the cast features Scott Eastwood (The Fate of the Furious; Pacific Rim: Uprising), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter; Nightmare Alley), Josh Hartnett (Most Wanted; Lucky Number Slevin), Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice; Fargo), Laz Alonso (The Boys; Fast & Furious), Raúl Castillo (Knives Out; Army of the Dead), Post Malone (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; Spenser Confidential), Chris Reilly (Allied; The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies), and Niamh Algar (Raised by Wolves; Censor).
This is the first of two upcoming Ritchie/Statham collaborations, as the dynamic duo are also currently filming an upcoming spy film titled Five Eyes, which will co-star Aubrey Plaza (Legion; Parks and Recreation).
Wrath of Man is set to hit theaters on May 7.
A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.
