Don't Expect A Sequel To THE SIMPSONS MOVIE Anytime Soon

Talking at UCLA's annual entertainment symposium, creator Matt Groening and producer David Silverman have revealed that there are still no plans for a follow-up to The Simpsons Movie, with the latter claiming that we're unlikely to see one for "another 10, 15 years".

The Hollywood Reporter were at UCLA's annual entertainment symposium today in order to cover a special Q&A session with The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and longtime producer and director David Silverman. During the event, the subject of a sequel to box office hit The Simpsons Movie was inevitably brought up. However, despite grossing upwards of $500 million, it doesn't sound as if a follow-up is a priority for Groening or 20th Century Fox. "It took us four years [to make] and it killed us," he said before adding that it "stole animators from the show." Silverman was quick to point out that we have a long wait, although whether or not he was exaggerating is debatable. "Maybe another 10, 15 years," he told the disappointed crowd. How about you guys? Would you like to see The Simpsons Movie get a sequel? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts below!

This show should be cancelled...is shit. This show stopped being funny after season 10...and we're on season 23 or 24 or something like that...14 shitty seasons out of 24? Matt Groening not only looks like George Lucas but is also [frick]ing his own shit up. Bunch of retards.

I don't understand this, the movie made in total about 350 million after costs, do they really make that much profit from the show alone to say no more movies? if i was them i would focus on movies and even stop the show after the success of the movie, unless somehow the show makes more money???

Everyone here asking for the Simpsons to be cancelled is being extremely selfish.

If it's still on the air it means that it maintains a large enough audience to warrant large amounts of advertising dollars.

This means that Many many many people still routinely watch and enjoy the show.

IMAX press event

This is what I saw this morning:

Jurassic Park 3D: This is the four minutes playing in front of Oz IMAX 3D. This is a really great conversion and I can’t wait to see this.

G.I. Joe Retaliation: We saw the mountain fight in the trailer in it’s entirety. It’s [frick]ing awesome and the 3D wasn’t bad. I would say peep this in 2D. Hope this flick turns out good.

Oblivion: Saw the opening 6 minutes and this only reinforced that this is gonna be something special. I hope this flick turns out good. It looks like it’s specially formatted for IMAX. Or maybe it’s just me.

Iron Man 3: we saw 20 minutes. The 3D is bad, yea this has the possibility of being the best Marvel Cinematic Universe film yet. Shane Black is the secret ingredient. I’ll be honest seeing those 20 minutes made me want to see the film even more .

Star Trek into Darkness: The 3D is incredible and the IMAX footage is jaw dropping. We saw 30 minutes and 30 minutes is better than the entire last movie.

After Earth: We saw the newly released trailer. As I said before it’s an improvement by massive bounds over the teaser, but the names and accents still suck. I’ll peep it at my press screening.

Man of Steel: This part of the presentation was irrelevant to me for obvious reasons. See these 10 minutes just made me want to see the actually movie again.

Pacific Rim: We got to see 10 minutes. The fight between the Jager and whatever monster that was is crazy. This shit is easily gonna bank dough and start a franchise. del Toro you did again

300: Rise of an Empire: We saw a teaser trailer in 3D and yes, it’s just as stylized as the previous film. It’ll be interesting to see if this is good or not…

Riddick: We saw 10 minutes from this. All I can say is I’m glad we’re back in R-rated Pitch Black territory. This shit is gritty and nasty.

Gravity: We saw the 17 minute opening shot in 3D. HOLE. LEE. SHIT!!! This is gonna be our generation’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Alfonso really is pushing the boundaries on cinema. And it does feel as if you’re floating in space.

Seventh Son: We saw a teaser in 3D. Don’t know what to make of it as I’ve never read the books. But it looks really interesting.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: This shit was 10 times better than the first due to no shaky cam shit. And the IMAX footage fits the arena like a glove. Now I’m hyped for this shit as it’s my 2nd favorite book in the trilogy.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: First, this was in 24fps 3D thank God. Now we got to see 5 minutes of Bilbo’s face-off with Smuag the dragon. Smuag looks incredible. I mean wow…

The movie was a bloated mess.

I would love a hard R-Rated Family Guy movie.

The Simpsons went strong for about 300 odd episodes. It's only a couple of years ago it started to truly decline, and since then they've changed it up a bit to try and emulate Family Guy a bit more (more cutaway gags, similar story structure, etc.)
The Simpsons may well be on its way out, but I think it still has a few more years left in it. Perhaps, once the series does end, they'll just continue it with movie specials once every few years. I can't imagine a world where The Simpsons has ended for good.

I think the main problem with the movie was that they made it while they were also working on the TV show. They couldn't concentrate their attentions entirely on either one, and the movie suffered for it. I think, if eventually a time came that the show ended and the series continued in movie form, those movies might fare better since there'd be more time between Simpsons stories to think up new stories, they could concentrate fully on the movies, and it'd prolong the longevity of the series; as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

At least they're not forcing a sequel like most are in Hollywood these days. But yeah, maybe it's time for the show to end. Maybe end it on a comeback movie in a few years time...But to be honest Futurama needs the limelight.

Family Guy sucks

And I agree, it's South Park who deserve a new movie treatment. The original was hilarious, and if they went back to their routes, good make a shit load

Good, because the first was terrible. The Simpsons was/is one of my favorite shows of all time, but it hasn't been funny in over a decade.

I still the watch The Simpsons every week, it's not as good as it used to be but it's OK. I'd like to see another movie come out eventually but they can take their time with it. I'd really like to see a King of the Hill movie, that show was awesome. Family Guy was good for a few seasons but now it's basically unwatchable. American Dad is pretty good, it's been consistent throughout most of it's run. I'm guessing that Matt Stone and Trey Parker don't really want to do much more South Park, what with this season only having ten episodes.

I love Family Guy. You have to have a sense of sarcasm and dry humor to like it. A little schtick and ironic humor as well.

I do not like the Simpsons however I DID like the movie. I wouldn't mind seeing a 2nd one.
