John Lasseter Gives His Thoughts On A Possible Marvel/Pixar Movie

One of the founders of the famous movie animation studio that brought you films such as Toy Story and Cars, expresses interest in a crossover film between the two companies. See what he had to say after the jump...

We all love Toy Story, Cars, and Monsters Inc., and virtually everything else that Pixar has made so far, but could you imagine what would happen if any given Marvel superhero stepped into Pixar territory? Fans have been wanting a crossover since Disney aquired Marvel. John Lasseter, co-founder of Pixar and director of Toy Story and cars was asked that very simple question that has been on everyone's minds: Will there be a crossover film between Marvel Studios and Pixar? See what Lasseter had to say below. Information courtesy of Collider.

“Well, I can’t say anything about that because Marvel just got—[they’ve] been a couple years as part of the Disney company, we’ve been six years as part of the Disney company. And at Pixar, we stay focused on making original films. Even our sequels are kind of created internally and we come up with ideas [on our own]. I’m also leading the Walt Disney Animation Studio and all of that. These studios are filmmaker driven studios, so if a filmmaker comes to me and says, ‘Hey, I wanna do this,’ then I would be really open to it.”

To me I think with Pixar's beautiful level of animation they could bring a number of popular marvel heroes to life in very cool ways. When the world of comic books and animation meet, there are always multiple and interesting possibilties. What do you think of this? Sound off with your thoughts below.

What a clown. He said pixar won't ever collaborate with Marvel in an interview last year. Now that Marvel is the top disney studio with the avengers he is singing a different tune. Marvel doesn't need Pixar they need a photo realistic studio not some cartoon studio like pixar for their animated projects. Plus pixar has fallen off with Cars 2 and Brave looks like a HTTYD ripoff. Plus John Carter was basically a Pixar film just without it's stamp.

Wasn't it just the other day that a pixar artist revealed some concept renders he did in his spare time of DC characters for a Justice League animation if it were to happen?

As long as it isn't part of the MCU, I'm okay. Animated characters mixed with a universe presented so far as "real-life" characters wouldn't work.

I think the best choice for a Pixar/Marvel movie would be Power Pack. Aim for the kids, hit the adults, but those who don't know would probably call them an Incredibles rip off. But the Pet Avengers would be pretty cool, too.

If you watch TWD and check out the animated Z's, they move more like you would imagine. They ARE lifeless. Look at the Z's breaking Hershal' fence, half of the extras r holding the fence for balance, watching where they're goin. Thats thought. Sorry, my main point was that animation should absolutely be the way to go. Reboot the Xmen and do it right. Ant Man could be awesome.I've got some great idea's Marvel, buy me lunch, u need me. Sushi.

I think Pixar could do the Runaways very well. That would be a cool idea for a movie and appeal to kids.

Power Pack was always one of my favorite comics, and they'd translate into Pixar pretty seamlessly. Until, of course, their roles in the Mutant Massacre came up :)

Let's see. Fantastic Four would be cool, but may be too close to The Incredibles. Young Avengers definitely, Runaways, New Warriors. Hell, imagine if Pixar could do the Falcon and Hawkeye movies? They'd be A list damn near overnight.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man needs to be live action.

WHAT PIXAR COULD DO:
You know those animated shorts before all Pixar films? They should be hired to make those before each Marvel film but that each should be set in and expand the MCU.

Pet Avengers would be fun. And I always saw Power Pack as either an animated series on Disney or a live-action series on ABC Family. They should just divert all funding from No Ordinary Family into Power Pack.

It's silly to think that this "mash up" is a new concept. This should have been the standard once a Comic Book Movie was made. Look at all the Dousche like Super Hero Movies that were made with Doushcey actors that Frag up our image of what the comic superheros look like. If movies were made PIXAR like we would have actually seen all the X-Men, SpiderMan, Green Lantern, SuperMan, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Etc. in theyer proper iconic uniforms than looking at actors that dont even look like the characters they are supposed to portray. "Make these movies the right Friggin' way".

Howard The Duck would be a good way to go I think Or maybe Groo...
BAIKINMAN
BAIKINMAN - 6/16/2012, 1:51 AM
This would also give extra life to actors doing Motion Capture/CGI Superhero movies. Andy Serkis (Gollum)LOTR, Mark Ruffalo (HULK)Avengers, and Zoe Saldana (Neytiri)Avatar showed how great Motion Capture is. what if Angelina Jolie "Mocapd'" Wonder Woman or Psylocke in a CGI movie, or Vin Diesl as the Jauggernaut. Even Sci Fi movies like Star Wars with Luke, Han and Leia could get a reboot with CGI mocap movies... "And Yer welcome"..
Orehrepus
Orehrepus - 6/16/2012, 3:48 AM
No, thanks.

Each of them makes good movies on its own. There's no need to collaborate. Would you rather see them busy making an animated Avengers or Spider-Man movie, which is already great in live action version than making The Incredibles sequel?

Maybe you'd think they could make second tier heroes that don't make the live action such as Cloak and Dagger and Heroes for Hire. But would they go for it? I don't they want to risk going for the lesser known characters.

It's not a bad idea, but I don't think it's necessary.
