Set in the Middle Ages, the evil wizard Gargamel discovers the Smurfs' village and chases them into a wooded area. The Smurfs get scattered and Clumsy Smurf wanders into a "forbidden" grotto and some of the other Smurfs follow. Since it's also a blue moon, a magical portal within the grotto transports them into present-day Central Park in New York. They take shelter with married couple Patrick and Grace Winslow and try to find a way back to their village before Gargamel finds them

The Smurfs hits theaters July 29th, later this year!

Why does Hollywood feel the need to constantly rape great cartoons like this? I mean, is it Garfield's success that drove this wave of live-action mess? What about the success of Alvin and the Chipmunks? Surely, we all remember the masterpiece that was Yogi the Bear. [frick] me this is lame.

I loved the cartoon as a kid, I even had the blanket and sheet set. I knew this was gonna happen sooner or later, but you gotta admit this trailer looked a hell of a lot better then the TV spot that was posted yesterday.

Yeoldeemoney: Welcome to my world. Hollywood has been ruining great cartoons for many years, including most of my childhood favorites. Can I safely presume that the Smurfs were one of yours? If so, believe me, I feel your pain here, my friend. One more thing: The Smurfs were popular in the '80s. Hollywood has been on a vendetta for years to ruin everything cool associated with that great decade.
