IGN has posted their review/rundown of the latest DC Animated short film, Catwoman, which was shown yesterday at the New York Comic-Con. Below is a spoiler-filled description of the short, so don't read it if you don't want to know what happens in the 15-minute film.

The film, which is short on dialogue and high on action and atmosphere, starts with two gunmen chasing a cat through the back alleys of Gotham City and then dodging speeding cars across a bridge. The chase is noticed by none other than Catwoman. The thugs apparently chase the cat right off the bridge and into the water far below. We see, however, that Catwoman rescued the cat and is curled up under the bridge with her. She realizes why the thugs were chasing it when she inspects the gold collar around the cat's neck.

The thugs work for a towering diamond smuggler named Roughcut (voiced by John DiMaggio), whom Catwoman follows to a strip joint called The Kitty Corner. This is where the short takes a decidedly adult turn with a pole-dancing stripper taking off her top for a lip-licking Roughcut and his ogling henchmen. Catwoman assumes the place of one of the next strippers, taking to the stage and suggestively dancing for the unassuming criminals in full costume.

Catwoman suggestively unzips her jumpsuit, revealing her cleavage before reaching inside her costume and producing her whip, quickly disarming and beating up Roughcut's henchmen. A brawl between Catwoman and Roughcut ensues, spilling out into the street and finally turning into a high-speed chase between Roughcut in his getaway car and Catwoman on a pilfered motorcycle.

An AK-47-touting Roughcut opens fire on Catwoman, who falls off her bike and almost gets her run over by an oncoming tractor trailer truck. Roughcut thinks he's escaped to his warehouse/loading dock in order to oversee an important shipment, but Catwoman shows up to finally take down the smuggler and his gang.

She opens up a cargo container to reveal not jewels or drugs, but a bevy of young women. Yes, Roughcut is into human trafficking, and among his young captives is the owner of the cat collar Catwoman found: Holly Robinson, Catwoman's young "sister." She tells Selina that she was trying to leave town but lost her money. The film ends with Catwoman giving Holly a handful of stolen diamonds to pay for her way out of Gotham.

IGN goes on to say that the short proves the character as envisioned in the short, and the site expresses interest in seeing a full length animated film starring the character in the future.

You can check out the Catwoman short when it's released on DVD/Blu-Ray with Batman: Year One on October 18th!
