If you love watching the classic Spider-Man cartoons such as Spider-Man The Animated Series, and Spectacular Spider-Man I hope you got your fill. Disney has announced that it is pulling those two cartoons in preparation for their newest animated series featuring Spidey titled, Ultimate Spider-Man. The move has been confirmed by a representative for Disney XD to Toon Zone, and was made to avoid confusion with the new series.

When asked if the other series would be making a return after the premiere of Ultimate Spider-Man, the representative said they did not expect it anytime soon. Other programming such as The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man will remain on the air as this move was made with Spider-Man related cartoons only.

Ultimate Spider-Man will center around a teenage Peter Parker juggling the typical growing pains of high-school with the not-so-typical growing pains of being a Super Hero. As the newest member of Nick Fury's S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, Peter finds himself on a team with four other teenage Super Heroes. It stars Drake Bell as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Chi McBride as Nick Fury, JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Stan Lee as Stan the Janitor, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Steven Weber as Norman Osborn, and will be debuting this April on Disney XD.

All I freaking want is Spectacular Spider-Man released in SEASONS and not VOLUMES!! You already canceled that fantastic show, just let me buy it in a less over priced form!

Also, it would be great if Ultimate kept the tone of Spectacular and used it as an unofficial prequel.

ultimate spider-man better be good because they cancelled spectacualr spider-man for it and SSM (imho) was the best incarnation of spidey on the small screen, ever.

I talked to Josh Keaton (voice of Spider-Man from Spectacular Spider-Man) about Green Lantern The Animated Series and he talked a little bit about the Spectacular Spider-Man at the end http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JakeLester/news/?a=41856

Okay, so you were completely fine with keeping the 90's series on the air while the 2nd season of TSSM was airing, but now that you have "Marvel Team-Up in disguise starring Spider-Man" coming out, you want to get rid of two great shows for an overhyped load of BS that I could give a flying !@#$ about? HOW?

Why are people saying that this new USM series will be crap? For all you know, it could be miles better than SSM. Yes, Spectacular was indeed a spectacular series and the story and character development was close to perfect, but until USM is on the air, you shouldn't be slating it saying it will be rubbish.

@Barnebeejones

In retrospect, you pretty much won't say the same exact line if it were Spectacular Spider-Man in place of Ultimate Spider-Man.

I liked Spectacular, but I didn't think it was THAT great. Ultimate looks to be more akin with the 90's show, bring it on.

Well, sucks that they won't be on anymore but those shows had their time. It wasn't really enough time in the case of Spectacular, but now it's time to pass the torch to Ultimate.

@AFlashFloodOfVenom Because The Spectacular Spider-Man had great, fluid animation, a solid storyline, and a great cast. Just judging from the footage shown at D23, the animation won't be as fluid as TSSM, the show will have corny jokes, and will be mainly focused around him teaming up with other superheroes. If they really wanted to make a series based on Ultimate Spider-Man, ADAPT THE [frick]ING THING STRAIGHT OUT OF THE COMICS! What's the point of calling the show, "Ultimate Spider-Man", if it's not even following the storyline. Why couldn't they start of from issue #1 and forward?

I remember seeing some early stuff on TSSM and being worried. Then the first episode came out, and I was interested. By the end of the third episode I was hooked. It was a sad day for me when the show was cancelled.

I've seen the footage that premiered at comic con, and it worries me a little. But I think the show can still turn out to be great.

Good thing i've got Netflix, or I'd be one upset fanboy. Can't wait for the new series and movie! Should be a great year for Spidey!

'AutobotCommander84 I'll judge USM when it's on air. It may or may not be as good as SSM (unless you've seen it already, you can't really base an opinion on it from some clips at D23 lol), but the fact of the matter is that no amount of ranting will get Disney to revive SSM and make another series of it. Sure, it should have carried on for a few more seasons but it's not coming back. We've just gotta deal with it, and hope USM is faithful to the comics, which it may be.

Or it could be a complete cluster[frick] and pile of bullshit nonsense. I hope it isn't, even if it looks likely with Spidey on a motorcycle... hope to God that's explained in a legitimate way.

Hearing this news makes me miss Spectacular Spiderman, probably the best cartoon adaptation of Spiderman ever. This "new" Spiderman show, is the exact same thing, there's no difference, so therefore why was Spectacular Spiderman cancelled? Makes no sense to me, honestly. Despite my admiration of Spiderman, chances are that I might not be tuning in to this "new" series. I'll take Spectacular any day of the week.

Let me just say this now....SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN WILL NEVER BE BROUGHT BACK ON THE AIR BECAUSE THE ANIMATION RIGHTS FOR SPIDERMAN MOVED BACK OVER TO MARVEL. IF MARVEL WERE TO CONTINUE DOING SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN THEY COULD GET SUED BY SONY (THE COMPANY WHO PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE ANIMATION RIGHTS WHILE SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN WAS ON THE AIR)
and jeez, stop dogging out the series, you havent even seen much, and plus its in the marvel cinematic universe. Stop bitchin guys, the writer of Batman TAS is on the crew with this new spidey series anyways

What!? I liked going back and watching the old 90's series from time to time.

So what's their excuse for pulling; Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, and Static Shock off their network? :P

I might be showing my age but, although the First Season of the original series wasn't much as far as the animation or stories were concerned it had the Best Damn Music of Any Superhero TV series. I consider it as good as the music from The Avengers, The Prisoner or anything else produced in the 1960's and I don't just mean the opening theme either. Practically every damn track was catchy as hell and I often find myself humming those themes.
(Again, I'm talking First Season, Not that Ralph Bakshi horseshit)

One of the only reasons I still have a Netflix account is their Marvel line up. All they are missing is the 90's Fantastic 4.
