Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo have debuted a final trailer for the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie ahead of its release next month, and whether you happen to be on board with certain casting choices or not, this looks like a tonne of fun.

Among the highlights of this latest teaser are: Donkey Kong firing-up, an adorable Luma with a death wish, and an action-packed Mario Kart-inspired chase on the Rainbow Road.

While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find his brother.

With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Mario taps into his own power.

Check out the new teaser below, and be sure to secure your tickets.

Pratt and Day will be joined by Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Super Mario Bros. will be produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. The movie was scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2022, but was recently pushed back to April, 2023.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” said Meledandri in a statement when the project was announced.
