Today, it was revealed that actress Kristen Stewart has been offered the female lead in Akira, a live-action adaptation, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are moving forward fast with this project, now that they have locked the director. Garrett Hedlund will play Kaneda, but there is still no word on who will portray Tetsuo. From Deadline:

"Kristen Stewart is in advanced talks for the female lead Kei in director Jaume Collet-Serra’s epic Akira, based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume graphic novel. The intention has been to make two films, each covering three books in the series."

Along with Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart, Gary Oldman is set to play the Colonel. Stay tuned for more details...

I'm a tad disturbed by the sudden onslaught of anime-to-Hollywood movies. Akira, Battle Angel, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Ninja Scroll, Robotech -- these are genuinely awesome anime movies/series which hold a special place in my heart, I just can't bring myself to trust them in Hollywood's hands. The direction Akira is going only confirms my fears.

yeah she's hot on movie posters when the studios air brush the shit out of her and turn her into everything she isn't or occasionally in movies when she is wearing more makeup that a Tijuana tranny hooker.

outside of those 2 scenarios, she is not hot, and has the acting chops of a log.

I can not wait to see the crater this film leaves when it crashes and burns. My only hope is no real actors' careers get damaged in the fallout. Of course, Kristen Stewart is not a real actress and she can smoke a turd in hell.
