Alan Tudyk On The Possibilities Of S.H.I.E.L.D., ANT-MAN And More FIREFLY

Firefly alum Alan Tudyk discusses the possibilities of playing Ant-Man, joining Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. and returning for more shenanigans aboard the Serenity.

Alan Tudyk has gone on to enjoy a pretty successful career since his Firefly days with roles in 3:10 To Yuma, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Wreck-It Ralph, and Young Justice to name a few. There were very early rumors swirling around his name concerning Edgar Wright's Ant-Man and they still persist to this day. In a recent interview with Hypable, Tudyk frankly addresses the chances of him playing Hank Pym (or Scott Lang).

"I’ve heard about that[the rumor of me playing Ant-Man], but no. [It's a shame] I know, I’m a fan of ants. But no.”

So Ant-Man is a no-go for Tudyk. How about another Marvel project, perhaps Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. show. Tudyk just happened to be on set recently. Was it for a cameo?

"I just saw Joss the other day. I just went and checked out the… what is that show they’re doing? S.H.I.E.L.D. Not SWAT. Shows how much I know about it (laughs). I just happened to be on the lot where they were shooting...And I went by and Joss was there, it was very cool."

Tudyk wasn't there to film a guest role but who knows what he and Joss discussed while he was on set. Perhaps Joss informed him of a future role he had in mind for him. And while the two were together, you have to wonder if the conversation turned towards more Firefly, something Joss stated he'd like to potentially explore after The Avengers 2.

"I really think there’s a chance that it[a Firefly resurrection] could happen. I think that as we go forward, as it gets cheaper to shoot in digital … yeah, I hope so. We all want it.

Stay tuned to CBM for the latest updates on Ant-Man, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Firefly. Would you like to see Tudyk as Ant-Man or on S.H.I.E.L.D.? Sound off in the comments section below.

if Marvel Studio does Black Panther movie. they should cast Alan Tudyk to play Everett K. Ross and make the character a SHIELD agent who help Black Panther.

I'm guessing that if Joss was to go back to that universe it wouldn't be a continuation of the original series/movie. It'd be with a whole new set of characters, with the occasional cameo of the Serenity crew.

I like this actor but Edgar Wright has already promise this wasn't gonna be a comedy. With a name like Ant-Man they need to cast a serious actor and this guy is too comedic for me.

Alan Tudyk is a phenominal actor. He can play comedy or drama equally well. Just see what he did as a guest star in Dollhouse--He took a single character and did a massive change from funny and harmless to a major scary smart bad-ass serial killer. I have yet to see him give a bad performance in anything. I would love to see him get a major role in the Marvel universe.

Maybe they were discussing the practical application and infrastructure needed in implementing cold fusion technology to solve the worlds reliance on fossil fuels? You can plug in any imaginary topic when you are reporting on nothing but conjecture sewn together with a few outdated and well known anecdotes about 2 colleagues getting together.

Alan actually got pretty trim recently. I could definitely see him as Hank, but yeah, I guess he's not going there.

On Firefly, he's practically everyone's favorite character who isn't Mal. I know this wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as the idea of returning to a live-action series, but I could definitely see an animated version with the entire cast doing their voices. Nearly the entire cast has done work for the DCAU and beyond...

Jayne is Rick Flagg Jr in JLU, Inara is Black Canary in JLU, Mal is GL/Vigilante/Steve Trevor, River is Supergirl in "Apocalypse", Wash is Barry in Batman BATB, Zoe is Vixen/Superwoman, Shepherd is a mage in Fable 2.... Kaylee and Simon are really the only ones who haven't done voice work.

That said, I'm looking forward to Much Ado About Nothing, whenever it comes out...

If he doesn't play Ant-Man (to which he was one of my choices), I too also thought of him as Quatermaine.

He'd look ace decked out in S.H.I.E.L.D. Gear.

Please let this man change his mind and play Ant-Man. If for nothing else, just so that when people tell me I look like this guy it's, "Hey you look just like Ant-Man." and not, "Hey you're STEVE THE PIRATE!!" -_-

As for more Firefly, he undoubtably would have returned as a ghost in psychic girl River's head at least. She was complaining about the voices of the dead on Miranda, then after he dies she's a natural at flying the ship.

When it comes to Ant-Man, it's an easy denial... There's no way they have done any casting for that yet. Doesn't mean that they wouldn't consider it, but its certainly not a deal yet.

Not buying the "I was just walking around and happened to bump into Joss Whedon" bit. Tudyk either has a cameo or there's a small recurring role in the works.

As for ANT-MAN, he's not what I picture, either as Scott Lang or Hank Pym. I'm curious as to whether Marvel will play the character straight as he is in the comics. If so, they'd definitely need Wasp there to act as a less stoic foil.

Hard to believe that only a couple years ago it was rumored that Tudyk was rumored to play Bruce Banner (so glad they picked Ruffalo!)

@KingMarvel Being an A-list superhero is no guarantee of success either, but they have 6 hits (ok, maybe 5) under their belt, so I think Marvel is in a good position to take a risk on a lesser known character. That said, I'm guessing Marvel will keep to a more modest budget on ANT-MAN, *unless* they are planning on hyping up appearances by A-list Avengers (thereby guaranteeing more butts in theater seats).

I love the idea of Tudyk. He'd make a great Hank Pym in exactly the same way it turned out RDJ fit Tony Stark. Alas, that ball is in Edgar Wright's court.

@KingMarvel - 2/6/2013, 6:20 PM

"Can somebody please tell me way ant man is getting a movie??"

Because Marvel has had the character in development for years in one form or another and Edgar Wright wanted it so Marvel let him run with it.

"There has never been an ANTMAN comicbook that could hold is own??"

Actually, there was. He headlined Tales to Astonish for a year before doing double duty in that comic and The Avengers. Did he get his own book? Nope. But then again, a certain big green monster and co-founder of the Avengers had trouble keeping his own book on shelves (Vol.1 only lasted six issues before cancellation).

Hulk actually wound up guest starring in Fantastic Four until landing in The Avengers and, coincidentally, wound up sharing Tales to Astonish with Ant-Man (and then Giant Man) until that comic became the second volume of Incredible Hulk.

"So way give all these Dollars to a Antman hwo cant even hold his own comicbook???"

Because Marvel can. Just like the Hulk.

"its a dissaster waiting to happend! I had rather see a daredevil movie!!!"

Seeing as Marvel only just got the character back, I think development on a Daredevil movie might take awhile. Enjoy Phase 2 and 3 in the meantime! See? That wasn't so hard.

He would be good in the role. My top choice for Hank Pym/Ant-Man is Patrick Wilson.

@Terminal Its 2013 does Antman have an ongoing comicbook on the shelvs now?? No! he never really had his own book! and no having your own book doesn't garantee succes but at least Ironman had a comicboek fanbase!! and cartoon! And hwo's to say Mr Wright wont F0ck it up?? And yess Disney got the cash Instead of buying back the Sony and fox held characters they buy Starwars!?!?

But i thing Mr Inkslinger said it best!
"The other problems are going to come from unknown properties (GOTG, Ant-Man,Dr. Strange.) They took a major risk with the Iron Man, Thor, and Cap movies but it paid off. It paid off very well. I believe however that this next batch of unknowns has Iron Man 2 written all over them. If history has shown us anything it is that the right moment, the right man, and the right movie can pay off very well. For proof of this just look back to 2008, RDJ, and Iron Man. That formula could work for Dr. Strange but I just do not believe that can work for the likes of Ant-Man. What makes Hank Pym such an endearing character are his many flaws and screw ups. It remains to be seen how general audiences and kids in particular can embrace a wife beating, cowardly quitter such as Dr.Pym."

Ant man is a wrong bet! Im a marvel fan i want them to succeed not fail. Just like the schoemacher batman back in the day back than i told people this was gonna suck donkey A$$ and now im saying it again Antman is gonna suck Donkey A$$.
