John Slattery To Return As 'Howard Stark' In ANT-MAN; Full Cast & Synopsis Released

Peyton Reed confirmed that shooting had begun on Ant-Man earlier today, but Marvel.com have now issued a press release which reveals both a synopsis for the highly anticipated movie AND the addition of actors like Judy Greer, T.I and a returning John Slattery...

The cast of Ant-Man was already impressive, but an official list of those who will star in the movie is sure to get even sceptics excited! One of the biggest reveals is the fact that John Slattery will return as Howard Stark after playing the character in Iron Man 2, and while his role is easy to figure out, the others aren't. Personally, I would place my bets on Judy Greer being the young Janet Van Dyne, though Scott's ex-wife is another possibility. The young Abby Ryder Fortson seems like a good bet for Cassie Lang as well (meaning that Young Avengers movie could still be a good few years down the line), but the others are impossible to figure out! What do you guys think?

Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “The Bourne Legacy”), Bobby Cannavale (“Danny Collins,” “Annie,” “HBO’s “The Long Play”), Michael Peña (“End of Watch,” “American Hustle”), Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness”), Judy Greer (“13 Going on 30,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”), David Dastmalchian (“The Dark Knight,” “Prisoners”), Wood Harris (“Remember the Titans,” “The Wire”), John Slattery (“Mad Men,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 2”) and Gregg Turkington (“The Comedy,” “On Cinema”) and multi-hyphenate T.I. (“American Gangster,” “Takers”).

Here's the latest synopsis for the film which was included in the press release:

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

It's interesting to see Scott Lang referred to as a "con-man" here, though there's not an awful lot else which we don't already know after the Comic-Con interviews and footage. Regardless, shooting began in San Francisco today, and will also shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia.

Wow...nice article...

Slattery was cool as Howard in IM2, and he was awesome in the Adjustment Bureau. How would he fit in with Ant-Man, though? Anyone familiar with Hoawrd Stark would be hoping for Dominic Cooper... But cool news regardless.

Maybe this means he'll also be playing Stark on the Agent Carter show, which would be awesome

Okay so that pretty much officially shows us that Dominic is young Howard and John is old Howard and that the guy in the newspapers is never going to be seen ever again.

BOBBY CANNAVALE YEEEESSSSS! He was beyond awesome on Boardwalk Empire. I've been waiting for him to show up in a comic book movie. Unfortunate that he'll likely be wasted like Djimon Honsou was in Guardians.

hopefully this time he won't be inventing an element in the past to solve the problems of the future, only for that research to be hidden in a scale model that is to be found at the perfect moment.

LOL

Thank You! I was wondering how in the hell they're going to make me believe that this guy wasn't just a randomly casted actor in Iron Man 2 to be Downey's poppa with Dominic Cooper playing a more resembling role (being resembled to Downey) in CA:TFA.

Slattery and Cooper look nothing alike. lol

@npamusic Yeah, I figured. It's just that I don't think he really looks like an older version of Cooper's Stark.
