AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM: DC Comics Reveals Upcoming Comic Book Prelude Set Before Sequel

DC Comics has announced plans for an Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom comic prelude, and as well as cover art, we have details about what happened between the events of Aquaman and the long-delayed sequel...

Despite rumblings Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be delayed, the sequel has yet to move from its planned release date.

Given what we've heard about the movie, it would be unwise for Warner Bros. to push it into 2024, especially as there needs to be as big a gap as possible between the DCEU's conclusion and Superman: Legacy kicking off the new DCU (as of now, the only DC movie heading to theaters next year is Joker: Folie à Deux).

DC Comics recently revealed its October solicitations and among them is a one-shot titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Special #1. As you've no doubt figured out, it's a prelude to the movie that promises to fill in the gaps between 2018's Aquaman and this long-awaited follow-up.

"Discover the shocking events that connect the smash-hit Aquaman movie to the eagerly anticipated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom!" reads the description. "Aquaman balances his duties as king and as a member of the Justice League, all while planning a wedding!"

"Black Manta is on the hunt for Atlantean tech to help rebuild his armor! Orm plots to escape his Atlantean prison! Three action-packed tales crammed into a single special!"

So, Arthur Curry and Mera are planning to get married, a surprise when Amber Heard's Mera is said to only feature in a few minutes of the movie. The solicitation text also offers a better idea of what villains Black Manta and Ocean Master are planning as we head into the sequel.

On writing duties for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Special #1 are Tim Seeley, Joey Esposito, and Ethan Sacks. Miguel Mendonca, Ray-Anthony Height, and Scot Eaton will provide art, while Ivan Reis, Jim Cheung, and Belen Ortega are lending their talents to provide covers.

The Flash prelude revealed the moment Barry Allen got his new suit, so we're definitely anticipating at least a couple of big moments in this one-shot.

Over/under 500m? I think under, I still don't know how the first one made so much money.. unless if it really was the Snyder cult pumping up WW and Aquaman. It's possible. This movie is [frick]ed, especially if Amber Turd is in it at all

@kider2 nailed it. "Aquaman 1 was massive in China, The Phillipines and Romania."

That's it right there. I don't know if Romania has money to lift a movie, and make a dent, but I sure do know China has the money, muscle, and power, to make a difference. That shit made bank there.

China acts like it doesn't like America at all anymore so...who knows what it'll make there.

Aquaman was not a good movie. It is puzzling that it made so much money. Only explanation I can think of is it had some Avatar like shit in it.

Absolutely puzzling. It's on3 of those movies/tv shows, that no one ever admits to going to see/watching, yet somehow it ended up with a billion dollars/the number one spot on television.

Marvel Studios' current issues aside, how the fukc did a movie that went from making a billion dollars, get projected to perform as bad as The Flash 2023 has? How...heh. I can't even think straight. How "DID" Aquaman 2018 make a billion dollars, and how is it now going from that, to NOT making that, or anywhere near it?

@videovac - Even if I don't like some hit movie, usuallyit is clear why it was a hit. Can't see why Aquaman was. Other than the pretty oceanshots

Weird we are getting DCEU prequel comics now that the DCEU is ending...
Man of Steel had one BVS and Suicide Squad sort of had prequel comics after that nothing for a long time. Until Black Adam which was followed by Shazam 2 and The Flash prequel comics. Weird choice to give us prequel comics when your franchise is ending and is at its low point in popularity.

I thought Aquaman was pretty good, they did cram in a lot, they had three movies worth of storylines in it.
