AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Star Patrick Wilson Teases Sequel's Place In DCEU Multiverse And Crazy VFX

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Patrick Wilson has dropped some intriguing hints about the sequel's place in the DC Extended Universe, promising fans an experience like nothing they've ever seen before.

Aquaman was one of Warner Bros.' biggest DC Extended Universe hits with mostly positive reviews (it holds 65% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a whopping $1.148 billion at the worldwide box office. It's no surprise, then, that filmmaker James Wan has been enlisted to continue telling Arthur Curry's story in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

We've seen very little from the sequel, but star Partick Wilson (Orm/Ocean Master) shared a few tantalising details about the film while promoting Roland Emmerich's Moonfall

"You take those things that you think people responded to, even if it was, 'Oh my God, can you believe they did that?'" the actor told Collider. "Yeah, we did that. Now we're going to do more of that. I think we found our niche. I think DC has found their way to understand where each movie can fit, even in a Multiverse, which is so overused now, as a term."

"Clearly the movie went beyond a fanboy demographic because it made whatever; billion dollars, right? So that affords you a freedom of, 'You know what? Let's keep it fun. Let's make it fun,'" Wilson continued. "We push all the fighting and the stunts. We've used crazy techniques between us and The Flash that have never been used before."

It's interesting that Wilson highlights both Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash as having "crazy techniques" we haven't seen on screen before, and we can't help but wonder if he spent some time on that movie's set (he does unexpectedly reference the Multiverse). As for what fans can expect from the movie, he added: "[I'm] obviously not going to get into that. But James loves to pick and choose from his own mind and comics and how we bring in certain elements."

Warner Bros. still has The Batman, Black Adam, and The Flash to promote, so it could be a while before we get a trailer for the Aquaman follow-up. It should be with us by the summer, though.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released in theaters on December 16. Check out our interview with Moonfall director Roland Emmerich and Wilson's co-star, John Bradley, below:
