The film-makers of Avengers: Endgame have already singled out Robert Downey Jr. as worthy of Oscar consideration. But now they are similarily praising Alan Silvestri's franchise-capping work for the film. While discussing his work on the score's standout cue 'Portals', they elaborated on his contribution and how important his work was to bring the scene to life.
Marvel thought so highly of the cue that they produced an official music video for it. And Marvel might be bullish here. They already tasted vast success at the Oscars last year with Black Panther, winning the very category under discussion - for Best Score. Do you think Marvel can win another nomination and Oscar for score this time around?
Check out the film-makers comments below and the official Marvel music video and let us know your thought.
Stephen McFeely (Writer): I think this, always meant to be a super-powerful scene, didn 't really come together until Alan Silvestri's score came in.
Joe Russo (Director): Oh yeah. This piece of music is incredible, and I think it could be one of the greatest pieces of music that Alan's ever composed. I think his score in this film is beyond exceptional.
Stephen McFeely (Writer): I would argue it should be considered for things.
Joe Russo (Director): I would argue the same, as I don't believe that Alan has ever won an Oscar.
Christopher Markus (Writer): Which is somewhat ridiculous.
Joe Russo (Director): When score can achieve this level of storytelling, it is transcendent. He is helping us tell the story here. And he's connecting so many different things all at once, it's staggering what he's doing. Only someone of Alan's skill could have pulled this off. And there is, I would argue, maybe one other film composer on the planet at Alan's skill level.
Also Joe Russo mentioned that there is only one other composer who is at Silvestri's skill level. Who do you think he is referring to?
