Disney is in the process of acquiring 21st Century Fox, a deal which finally will bring the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While everyone at Marvel Studios claims they haven't started thinking about what could happen with those characters, Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo seem very excited about being able to get their hands on them.

"We’ve had the best experience of our careers with Marvel," Joe revealed in a recent podcast interview. "We have a great working relationship with them and we love telling these stories. It’d really be a function of, what is the story, if we do stick around. Certainly it’s enticing when you have all these Fox characters about to show up. It’s an incredibly complex universe to keep building out."

Anthony was quick to point out that nothing is happening with those characters in the MCU right now and made it clear that everyone is waiting and seeing when it comes to how they could be incorporated into the world of The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. When talk turned to Secret Wars, though, Joe made it clear that he's a big fan and even collected those action figures as a child.

"That was a big comic for me as a kid," he revealed. "I had all of it. I think that was probably the most important book to me." When the interviewer noted that an adaptation of that tale would be a great place to introduce the X-Men and Fantastic Four, Joe added: "That's right. I like the way you think." Whether or not that will actually comes to pass remains to be seen but it would be very cool indeed.

The first MCU X-Men movie is probably going to break records all over again.....

Cool to know they love the original Secret Wars. Means they translating its greatest moments to the screen is a real possibility. They get the original material.

BTW how crazy it is to consider someone can make a secret wars film and not being afraid of it? Yeap, after IW this is possible.

I’m excited for them to direct an X-men movie too. After all these years of something akin to the X-men it will be amazing to see the actual X-men on the big screen in live action.

I don’t know if I want them to be introduced via Secret Wars though. Seems limiting. I’d just introduce them I think.

After seeing how the Russo brothers have developed the character of Thanos in Infinity War, I want them to put their hands on Dr. Doom and Magneto.

@Repian - DAMN STRAIGHT! Doom is my all time fave villian and he was great in Secret Wars. Would love to see what Russo's do with him.

Although I would hope they don't humanize him too much. I mean, sure when he's growing up he will be a regular dude. But by the time he puts on his armor, he should be a complete pompous arrogant bad ass

I still don't know how anyone could walk away from the MCU willingly. Imagine if you've been a mainstream Hollywood director who's always liked comicbooks and you get this opportunity to contribute to this big, crazy, amazing project. How do you go back to directing TV sitcom pilots?

And on top of that, the post-Marvel careers for the big directors haven't been as amazing as I would have expected. Joss Whedon directed two of the biggest blockbusters of all time and then... nothing for three years except cleaning up somebody else's Avengers. Favreau gets to make furry movies for Disney, I guess, so that's probably been the best cast scenario.

I say, if you get a foothold in the MCU, you stick around as long as you can.

These guys can direct anything. They’ve proven it.
But, I see them being more of a fit for X-Men than FF.
They could at least direct the first movie and establish the X-Men in the MCU, and then move on to other Marvel characters.
I just want these guys to stay with Marvel.

As much as i would like them to do some X-men movies... i kind of want them to stick with the Avengers or Cappy until his arc is over, pending Avengers 4. They have just done such a fantastic job w/ Cap and now IW. I do however, want to see what they could do with Dr Doom or Galactus

@MotherGooseUPus - The only I want them to return for is actually a new cap story. Maybe the falcon and bucky spin-off?

@MalseMarcel - Interesting. I would say not as it’s their property they’re getting back unlike the Lucasfilm purchase (or whatever it was).

@MalseMarcel - they would be stupid to. The FoX-Men are a meager brand compared to the MCU

Just imagining MCU X-Men and FF...

Too bad we're probably gonna have to wait for Phase 5. The deal needs to go through, then they need time to plan out their place in the MCU.

I seriously hope they recast Iron Mandy and Cap et al...when their contracts are done. Would be a damn shame not having iron man and Cap face the XMEN and FF
RedSheep
RedSheep - 5/4/2018, 2:20 PM
@SecretWarrior - That's why I hope they keep Stark alive and retired at the end of Avengers 4. It's be even better if Downey reprised his role, but he would only appear in very rare occurrences. Cap, I feel like I can part with. Either one of Iron Man or Cap should die in Avengers 4 in order to make the impact they're going for IMO

I want their origin to have them be the first people into space back in the 60's except things go wrong etc i think the optimism of the team is essential and it might not work in the current films

@SupermansTrunks - Make 'em contemporary with Hank Pym (maybe he designs their suits or tech) , and they emerge in the present day with powers. Totally buy these two as a Kennedy era couple
