To hype up Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman's appearance on Saturday Night Live, Marvel Studios debuted an unbelievable new extended TV spot for Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War on Saturday, featuring tons of new footage as Earth's Mightiest Heroes went up against the extinction-level threat of the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Black Order, and his horde of Outriders.
Almost all of the trailers, TV spots and posters we had seen before this weekend had shown Thanos in possession of just two Infinity Stones - the Space and Power Stones - but Saturday's extended TV trailer revealed that he may actually be a lot closer to completing the Infinity Gauntlet than we initially thought. The original YouTube version kept this small detail under wraps, but the Twitter/Instagram version, which were released in a slightly different aspect ratio, revealed a quick shot of the Mad Titan presumably arriving in Wakanda (although, it could be anywhere really since we don't see anything in the background outside of a blue cloud) at the 0:24 mark where we see him in all his might with the Infinity Gauntlet, which has five of the six stones in place - including the Soul Stone.
The Soul Stone has been arguably one of the movie's biggest mysteries, if not the biggest, and while its location remains unknown, it looks Thanos will definitely have it in his possession before the film's final battle. From left-to-right, we can see that the Infinity Gauntlet is already filled with the purple (Power), blue (Space), red (Reality), orange (Soul), and green (Time) Infinity Stones, leaving only a big hole for the yellow Mind Stone, which is currently residing in the Vision's (Paul Bettany) head.
Based on everything we know so far, we can safely theorize that Thanos will acquire the Power Stone first by attacking the Nova Corps before launching an attack on Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) ship where he will obtain the Space Stone from Loki (Tom Hiddleston). He will then likely move on to attacking The Collector's (Benicio del Toro) ship where he'll take possession of the Reality Stone and will then set his sights on the final three stones. Ebony Maw will be dispatched to get the Time Stone from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and will apparently succeed in his quest while Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight will seek out Vision to get the Mind Stone, which is a battle they'll end up losing because of a timely intervention from Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Falcon (Anthony Mackie).
Meanwhile, Thanos will set his sights on the Soul Stone and even though we still don't know where it is, based on the clues we've been given, it might not exactly be a stretch to assume that the elusive stone is actually somewhere on Titan, or if we look to the comics, it could actually be Titan itself. We've already seen plenty of scenes of Thanos battling Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and the Guardians of the Galaxy on his former home planet and unless the stone is hidden there, there really wouldn't be another logical reason for Thanos to come home because we already know he doesn't care about causing collateral damage on Earth.
If Thanos is indeed in possession of five of the six stones when he arrives on Earth to behead Vision, then that would tragically suggest that a good portion of the Avengers and Guardians may have already perished on Titan before the Earth makes its last stand in Wakanda. We haven't seen Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), or any of the Guardians on Earth for the final battle, so it does, unfortunately, line up with what we've seen thus far, but, then again, it could just always be a classic Marvel misdirect. Regardless, if Thanos does have five out of the six Infinity Stones before he faces Captain America in the forests of Wakanda, then that epic final confrontation just got a whole lot more meaningful as we could be witnessing a nearly all-powerful Mad Titan squaring off with the last standing Avenger.
So, what do you guys think? What are your best theories? Where is the Soul Stone? Sound off with your thoughts below!
