From IRON MAN To ANT-MAN AND THE WASP; All 20 Marvel Teaser Posters Ranked From Worst To Best

Earlier this week, Marvel released the first teaser poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp. That was the 20th poster of that type from the studio, so we've now decided to rank them all from worst to best...

A few days ago, Marvel Studios unveiled the first teaser trailer and poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp. The upcoming sequel is going to be the twentieth movie released by the studio and that means we've had a total of twenty teaser posters over the past decade. It's incredible to think that's the case and while Kevin Feige has produced hit after hit, this is one area Marvel has been very hit and miss with.

Some of these posters (and we're talking about the very first ones which have debuted) have done an excellent job of getting fans excited about what's to come, while others have been complete Photoshop disasters which have left a bad taste in our mouths. It's been a very interesting mixture!

What you'll find here is a ranking of all twenty teaser posters from worst to best. We think you'll be surprised by our choices but to check out the list in its entirety, be sure to click on either one of the buttons below. Once you've done that, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

20. The Incredible Hulk

What the hell is this? The Incredible Hulk remains the black sheep of the Marvel Studios family (it's really not that bad) and it's pretty easy to figure out why it didn't smash its way through the box office based if the rest of the marketing campaign was this dull. There's nothing here to get excited about!

19. Ant-Man And The Wasp

This was cute the first time around but three years on and it's entirely underwhelming. Marvel should have used this opportunity to give The Wasp the spotlight and further familiarise the character with moviegoers. Had the studio upped its game, this could have a served as a smart and inventive teaser.

18. Black Panther

Black Panther looks like it's going to be one of the best Marvel movies of all-time so what was the deal with this disappointing poster? In theory, it's not a bad idea at all but the execution is poor and it stinks of Photoshop. As a result, there's really not much here for fans to discuss or get psyched about.

17. Avengers: Age Of Ultron

It was a cool idea to give The Avengers logo a robotic makeover here but as many of you pointed out at the time, it only serves to make this sequel look like the latest instalment of the Transformers franchise. This should have been better and while it's not awful, it doesn't leave a lasting impact.

16. Ant-Man

As I previously mentioned, this was a fun, tongue in cheek idea the first time Marvel did it and a surprising way to promote Ant-Man. Again, though, something a little more creative could have really hooked moviegoers. Instead, this just emphasised the fact that the titular hero is a really small dude!

15. Thor: The Dark World

This electrifying poster is cool and all but the main problem is that it looks like a still which has had some fancy effects Photoshopped around it. Because of that, it looks like a moderately impressive fan-made effort as opposed to an epic first look at a sequel we all thought would blow us away (it didn't).

14. Guardians Of The Galaxy

This suffers from a similar problem to the poster above but the difference here is that it looks like Marvel took a random bunch of images of the characters and placed them all on a random background. None of the Guardians actually look like they're there and they're all looking in different directions!

13. Avengers: Infinity War

It was a surprise to see Marvel keep the theme going with its posters for The Avengers franchise and while the logo has undergone a slightly cosmic makeover, this almost has the opposite problem to Avengers: Age of Ultron in the respect that it's too subtle. Despite that, it's a definite improvement.

12. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

This may not be a particularly exciting poster but the good thing about it is that it got fans talking. At the time, we were all wondering what the deal was with Captain America's differently coloured shield and this did a solid job of establishing a very different tone for the franchise thanks to the Russos.

11. Thor: Ragnarok

This colourful poster did a good job of showing off the God of Thunder's new look and, like Captain America: The Winter Soldier's teaser, it establishes the fact that the franchise is heading down a different route. A better background probably wouldn't have hurt but it's not a bad poster.

10. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange was one of Marvel's most visually unique movies so it's a shame that the same can't be said for this teaser poster! Despite that, it was still a cool glimpse into the Sorcerer Supreme's world and fans definitely appreciated this gorgeous shot out of the Sanctum Sanctorum's window.

9. Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America's arms look a little weird but this got us all talking at the time as it was our first proper look at Chris Evans suited up as the fan-favourite character. Needless to say, selling a movie by showing off the hero this way is a smart move, especially when they have so much history behind them.

8. Iron Man 3

A big selling point of Iron Man 3 was getting to see Tony Stark's army of Iron Man suits and while this cool poster didn't reveal any of the new additions he'd come up with, it smartly revisited the past and explored the character's legacy (even if it didn't make sense when half of those were destroyed).

7. The Avengers

I know I've been critical about the teaser posters for Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War but this was not a bad first look at the superhero ensemble and definitely got us all excited at the time. It's an iconic logo and seeing it used this way was a really effective way to increase hype meters.

6. Iron Man 2

A moody background with two of the lead characters placed over it may not be the most thrilling of posters but seeing Iron Man and War Machine standing side by side like this was awesome to see and it's another effective teaser in the respect there's no way fans wouldn't be excited after seeing this.

5. Captain America: Civil War

The sight of Captain America and Iron Man staring each other down is very cool and while Marvel could have probably taken advantage of all that cool imagery from the comics to come up with something really special, this is hard to fault this one...well, aside from Tony not being in the suit!

4. Thor

Long before Lucasfilm used red in its posters for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Thor got there first and this visually striking teaser shows Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder standing tall with Mjolnir in hand. It's simple but superb and definitely a poster it would be worth having framed and put up on your wall.

3. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Well, this is more like it! For starters, the actors were clearly all in the same room when the photograph was taken and the fact it resembles an album cover is downright awesome (and appropriate given the soundtrack). It also gave us a first look at the cute Baby Groot but a lot of fans actually missed him!

2. Iron Man

Sure, it's not particularly flashy but this was the first teaser poster ever for a movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this glimpse at a live-action Iron Man was thrilling for a long list of reasons. The colours are striking and the nostalgia factor makes this one of Marvel Studios' best efforts by far.

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming

You may be surprised to see this at #1 but it's a damn good poster. As well as making it clear that this is a very different take on the wall-crawler, Avengers Tower looming in the background was another plus because it reminded us all that Spider-Man is finally back home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The GOTG Vol.1 (I had that one on the wall 3 years ago), IM3 and IM's teaser posters are probably the best Marvel has done.

And really like the creativity behind Ant-Man's teaser posters.

Sooo, it's an issue that the Guardians are looking in different directions on the poster for the original, but not that they're doing the same exact thing on Vol. 2. Okay then.

Anyway, I love that the three Avengers teasers (and both of Ant-Man's) are variations on a theme - makes me want to hang them on the wall right next to each other. Gotta love MCU continuity, both on and off the screen.

You should have two categories. Advance teaser, and release rankings separate.

I would move the original Ant-Man poster to the #1 slot.

Not a big fan of Doctor Strange, but I thought that poster was really cool. Also, love the GOTG 2 poster, but they also seem photo shopped in.

the GOTG2 poster WAS inspired by a Ramones record album. I am surprised you didn't know that Josh.

The Ant-Man and Ant-Man & The Wasp posters are clever though and you give hokey reasons to why they're no good.
Complaining that Ant-Man poster shows he's just a small dude, well... he is. Same as Wasp. Their posters do EXACTLY what they're supposed to in advertising their characters. They're tiny. There's nothing wrong in how they showed it.
