TV Line reports that Brett Dalton is the latest edition to the cast of Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D.; a small screen spin-off of The Avengers written and directed by Joss Whedon. The series will focus on the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, with Clark Gregg's 'Agent Coulson' already confirmed as returning. Dalton is a relative newcomer, but he has lined up a supporting role in National Geographic's Killing Lincoln. The actor will play 'Agent Grant' in the ABC pilot, "one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s highly-skilled rising stars - he's deadly, precise, and cool under fire — but not so great with the people skills. What do you guys think about this casting edition?

Good to see that they are moving right ahead with this show. If done well, this could be amazing.

i hope this show is good,we need another comic book show other than the walking dead to be decent.

It'd be cool if they got Luke Cage or something, since his powers wouldn't be too hard to do on TV, and he could even make it in to Avengers 3 or something if he's awesome.

@Batz11 I completely agree. Like Heroes for Hire and DareDevil.

Would be cool if this series lead up to The Avengers. Kind of a prequel of sorts.

Marvel has all their character tv rights too so they should really use that at their advantage.

If it is written by Joss Whedon, count me in:

I wonder why the actor has such a huge gap in his credits? He was in a pilot with Eliza Dushku in 2007 and nothing else until 2012.

Did he quit acting for awhile or did he just not land any roles?

Alot of really cool possibilities with this show, perfect way to introduce lesser known charecters to the MCU.

Hoping for Heroes for Hire, Daredevil, and some little far fetched stuff like Wakanda, Atlantis, and even Skrull infiltrators.

ABC is notorious for cancelling shows at the smallest inkling of less than stellar ratings.

@tazmaniak
I'm assuming you're looking at his profile on imdb. Really he could of been doing anything during that gap, he could of been doing stage plays or commercials.

I think this show has potential, especially if Joss Whedon is behind it.

@themightyquinn Coulson is supposed to be in it so that's probably a safe bet. Plus it would be a pain to have the show tie into the movies that are currently being made because details aren't set in stone. If it's during phase 1 then they already know what timeline details to work around

ABC, learn from Fox's mistakes. DON'T CANCEL THIS. Trust in Joss and give us at least a decade of comic inspired awesomeness on television.

@SpoonWielder, that's what I was thinking and that's correct. I should have been more specific and said commercial acting.

He does seem to have a nice list of stage credits and training credentials. Here's here resume, if you're interested:

I expect this show will resemble X-Files, Alias, and Mission: Impossible, with its own mythology and original villains.

Anyone hoping for a Marvel supervillain-of-the-week needs to temper their expectations.

When I saw his face, I instantly thought of Sam Witwer from Smallville and playing Starkiller in Force Unleashed.

Huh....I wonder how he would fit in the new SW movies if he was in it.

If its set during phase one there is tons of stuff they can do and set up. This has the potential to not only be very good, but very fun. Not to mention a springboard for other hero shows if they chose to do so.

Who would villains be? Aim? Hydra? Wrecking crew? Serpent society? Those would all be easier to do a tv show with right? and probably better on tv than a movie?

I was really skeptical of this show until they announced Coulson to be in it. I really hope they set it during Phase One and they do a few episodes concerning what SHIELD was doing during all the Phase One movies. A la Fury's Big Week.

I'm happy Agent Coulson will be back. This show has so much potential.

In Whedon I trust.
