POLL: Which 5 Films Should Be Nominated For The VFX Oscar?

The potential candidates for the Academy Award's Best Visual Effects honor has been narrowed down to 10 films. But there can only be 5 films on the official nomination ballot. Marvel's The Avengers is probably a lock but what other 4 films should also receive a nomination?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced that 10 films are currently in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 85th Academy Awards. But only 5 out of those 10 will receive an official nomination. Which five films do you think will receive the honor?

Some notable snubs are Men In Black 3, Hunger Games, Ted, Chronicle & The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2.

I really don't think TDKR had much VFX other than the Bat and the Batpod. Most of the prologue was done practical.

As for the Avengers, while the Hulk was cool and all, most of the CGI (especially in the climax) wasn't anything sppecial.

And don't even get me started on TASM...

I liked the Avengers, but to be honest the VFX work was nothing to write home about.

I hope The Hobbit ends up winning based on what I've seen so far.

1)Life of Pi
2)The Hobbit
3)Prometheus
4)Skyfall
5)Undecided

It's not surprising that the general audiences are just choosing their favorite movies, and not concentrating on what the category is saying i.e. VFX not "My favorite movie should win this year."

Life of Pi, Cloud Atlas, Prometheus, John Carter, and The Hobit: An Unexpected Journey are my contenders.

I went with Men in Black III in the poll, but I really can't decide whether that or Chronicle, the movie which should've been included in the list as well. Men in Black III's effects were great and balanced, while Chronicle's might be dodgy at places (due to its budget, I reckon), but I still can't take the movie's flying scene out of my mind. It really stood out, for me.

Meh...The Avengers effects where semi photorealistic 80% of the time but had little weight. Physics didn't look "real". Excess doesn't equal quality.

Life of Pi had the most beautiful effects.

TDKR had the best practical effects.

TASM had nice moments like the swinging but lizard was not very well designed or executed.

Prometheus had beautiful, photorealistic, and good physics.
I think it should take the gold this year.

are you kidding me with twilight and hunger games?

i can understand if you liked the films. really. it's fine. but they don't deserve to be even considered for the special effects category.

no debate about it.

all of the 10 finalists had vastly superior special effects. hobbit hasn't even come out yet, but gollum from the trailers is way more worthy of the special effects oscar than anything in hunger games or twilight.

Wait a minute... We shouldn't vote for the movie we like? You guys really want life of pi to win. I believe the man who gave us that movie also gave us a terrible hulk movie, a terrible ninja movie (with people running up trees), and a movie about gay cowboys. Some one tell me if I missed something? They couldn't pay me to see a movie that ang lee made. Avengers... Deal with it.

What effects did TDKR even have? vehicles? A crappy explosion? A city-wide view?

In that case Spider-Man has it beat.
