Stellan Skarsgård Reveals New Details About His Role And Interactions In The Avengers!

Well, you have to give it up for Movieline! While the majority of these interviews tend to see the same old questions brought up again and again, the site were able to squeeze some new information out of Stellan Skarsgård about his role as Erik Selvig in The Avengers. Confirming that Loki is controlling his mind in that after credit's scene, he also reveals which other character we'll see him interact with most in the movie from Joss Whedon...the answer may just surprise you! Be sure to click on the link below to head on over to the site where you can read much more.

I want to talk about the post-credit scene you shared with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. At what point during Thor’s production did you sign onto The Avengers and at what point was that scene filmed?

When I shot Thor, I had no clue about The Avengers, and they hadn’t come up with the plot yet. Then last fall, they contacted me and had an idea for the plot of Avengers and asked me if I wanted to be in it. I met with Joss Whedon, they sent me some ideas that I liked, and then I signed up for it. So it came up long after I finished Thor.

Can you talk about how your character will play into The Avengers?

Well, as you can see in the tag scene in Thor, Loki [played by Tom Hiddleston] starts to mess with my character’s mind a little bit. So my character is not played the same way in Avengers as he is in Thor but it’s also a much smaller role in Avengers. There are so many superheroes fighting for attention in that film.

Which characters does Selvig interact with?

Most of my work is with Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, and Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki.

I read that you weren’t very much of a Marvel fan when you signed onto Thor. Has that changed?

Because of ignorance, I wasn’t a big fan of Marvel. I hadn’t read the magazines. They were not as big in Europe as they are in the United States. They’re more a part of modern American mythology. I know more about the original Thor than the Marvel Thor. I actually had no idea how important those characters were to the American culture, but Kenneth made sure I got some magazines and I realized that the artistic work is great. The stories are much more advanced than I thought they would be.

Well, Loki was a given, but Hawkeye? Hmm...things continue to get all the more intriguing! Be sure to share your thoughts on the actors comments in the usual place.

I think Loki will assist or be present in the creation of the devise that brings Thor back to Midgard. I think Loki will have Thor transported back to Earth in the midst of a battle with the Hulk. Thor may end up fighting Hulk as well as the other Avengers due to this.

Selvig will create the "fire hose" devise seen in the set pics that opens the Rainbow Bridge.

I remember reading that Renner and SamJack did most of the filming that took place at NASA's space sim facility in Ohio, and found it odd that Hawkeye would be doing "spacework."

Maybe it involves Selvig's experimentation with wormholes, and Hawkeye and Fury are the ones who open the portal to Asgard early in the movie to let Thor return to Midgard.

dunno.

Nice save Stellan! Haha, he's good. If you guys like him go watch King Arthur, he's the main bad guy in it, and he's pretty bad ass (sword-fighting). There's a lot of good actors in it actually, the bad guy from Casino Royale, what's his face Mr. French from The Departed (voice of Beowulf), and Mr. Fantastic from Fantastic Four as Lancelot (yeah weird huh?).

Foxpaw - as I said above, I believe the only reason for two chars so different between each other to share screen time and dialogues would be because Hawkeye is ordered to protect Selvigg or something like that.
Niuhll

I'm pretty sure he meant he wasn't familiar with Marvel before he began filming. It's also unikely that Marvel produced Sweedish versions of their comics when Stellen was young. And if they did, it doesn't mean he read them.
