Theory On The Other From The Avengers

Theory On The Other From The Avengers

Hit the jump to read a mind numbing and improbable theory on who The Other from the Avengers might be.

I will be the first to admit that this is more than a stretch, but it's Sunday and there's not really a lot to post, so why the hell not. I watched the Avengers last night, went to bed, and dreamt of the scene between Loki and The Other. For some reason in the dream Loki called the other SLEEPWALKER. So naturally I woke up and furiously started researching The Other and Sleepwalker. I had always assumed the Other was simply of the same race as the Chitauri and never gave it much more thought. Now however I'm not so sure. Before I begin, remember Sleepwalker the hero is named after his race...any member of his race could be called a sleepwalker. Just in case you're not familiar with Sleepwalker, he is part of a race that patrols and polices the dream world, but can also under certain circumstances materialize into the physical world. Alright stay with me here, and again I know this is more than a stretch.

This is what the other looks like

And this what the Chitauri look like

Now they're not as similar as I first thought they were. The other clearly has a much more "human" face especially in the nose cavities. "Well Chitauri are shape shifters" you say. Ok, but would the Other really need to hide his true form while speaking with Loki?

Now here is what SLEEPWALKER from the comics looks like

Now of course one picture he has nose cavities and the other he doesn't with a net result being a shoulder shrug, but notice the bright and pronounced gums on Sleepwalker and then go back look at the blood red gums on the Other. Also take a look at Sleepwalker's chompers and then look at the below picture of the Other and notice his teeth.

I also find it curious that the Other's eyes are covered...perhaps if we saw big red buggy eyes it would've given it away.

Now let's look at one more aesthetic similarity...the costume.

Now of course the Other's costume in the movie looks much more regal and lacks that wispy, flowing, nightmarish look that Sleepwalker has in the comics, but yet the purple hood and the cape look like they could belong to sleepwalker or one of sleepwalker's race.

So what's the immediate knee jerk objection to aesthetic similarities? Of course it would be one has green skin and the other has pukish, milky, white skin...I said that this was a stretch didn't I.

One final thing...the second time we see Loki interact with the Other, Loki is actually on earth. The alley way surrounding Loki begins to dissolve into the cosmic, the interaction between the two ensues and ends with Loki wincing in pain and his eyes popping open as if it had been A DREAM.

So is it possible that a member of the race of Sleepwalkers has been employed in the service of Thanos, in the MCU? What do you think? I really want to hear your thoughts or objections.

@bane5000: You're probably right...like I said, this was a stretch

I still think Corvus Glaive.

I'm glad more people are looking at this topic. Deserves the whole nerd community investigating it. Nice theory, but afterall, it was a dream. I dreamt Thanos got hit in the face by a web in Avengers 3. I hope that happens.

I'm betting on Corvus at this stage too, but a part of me is saying it could still be Interface, Chthon or indeed now, Sleepwalker.

Or Grandmaster. He had the Mind Gem in the comics and is the most villainous of the Elders.

Im sure it will probably end up being an amalgamation of a couple different characters.
Interface
Chthon
Corvus
Mephisto
Annihilus
and maybe even Death or Sleepwalker. They showed us before their not afraid to do that with Whiplash. Marvel actually has the rights now to Mephisto with the rights to Ghost Rider reverting, so it could just be a disguised Mephisto if you think about it.

Yeah or even Grandmaster! So many possibilities!

Totally Corvus Glaive. And actually, the guys who work for Thanos in the Infinity event, look like the Chitauri.

I doubt he would be death because then he would be speaking in the third person at the end to Thanos. More than likely a mix of a couple different characters for the look and all put together for one major character already existing
