Earlier this week, we got word that Leslie Grace had landed the role of Barbara Gordon in the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl feature after testing for the part alongside the likes of Isabella Merced, Zoey Deutch, and Haley Lu Richardson. Since the news broke, the In The Heights star has taken to Twitter to share her excitement for the project.
Grace confirmed her involvement by re-Tweeting THR's original story, before thanking the official Batman account for welcoming her to the DC Films Universe. She then shared a fun fan-made poster that was brought to her attention by In The Heights director Lin Manuel Miranda.
Grace is clearly looking forward to suiting-up as Gotham's other Caped Crusader, though it's probably going to be quite a while before we actually get a look at her in costume.
Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to helm the DC Comics adaptation, with Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penning the most recent draft of the script.
Avengers director Joss Whedon was originally attached to helm Batgirl, but parted ways with the project back in 2018 after claiming that he failed to "crack the story." Adil and Bilall successfully revitalized the Bad Boys franchise with the highly profitable third installment, and also helmed episodes of the upcoming Disney+ Ms. Marvel series.
Plot details are still under wraps, but Batgirl is expected to feature Barbara's father Jim Gordon, and there's speculation that Firefly might be the villain. No release date has been announced, but the movie is reportedly scheduled to hit HBO Max sometime in 2023.
