BATGIRL Star Leslie Grace Shares Video Detailing Her Challenging Training Regime To Play Barbara Gordon

In The Heights star Leslie Grace has shared a behind-the-scenes look at her intense training regime to play Barbara Gordon in Batgirl, and it seems the actress is clearly putting the necessary work in...

The Avengers director Joss Whedon was once set to take the helm of Batgirl for Warner Bros., but the filmmaker stepped away in the wake of Justice League's reshoots. Now, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Ms. Marvel) are taking charge of the action from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey).

In The Heights star Leslie Grace will play the title character, while Warner Bros. has done an undeniably excellent job of putting together an impressive supporting cast. J.K. Simmons is expected to return as Commissioner Gordon and Brendan Fraser has been tapped to suit up as the villainous Firefly. Jacob Scipio, meanwhile, is expected to bring Killer Moth to life on screen.

Right now, Grace is hard at work training to take on the role of Barbara Gordon, and the actress recently shared a workout video highlighting the pitfalls of undergoing a superhero transformation.

Set to "Pennies From Heaven" by Lois Prima, the Batgirl star shows off her resistance training, weight lifting, and boxing, and wonders "When do the superpowers kick in?" It's great seeing Grace put this level of effort into playing the beloved member of the Bat-Family, and while the movie is heading straight to streaming, we're hoping this is the start of bigger things for the character.

During DC FanDome, it was confirmed that the DC Extended Universe's Batgirl will have red hair, while concept art (which you can check out here) gave us a glimpse of the vigilante's costume.

Batgirl is set to be released on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

Her thumbs are going to be jacked when she's through blocking people on social media.

@Reeds2Much -

Well, she seems to be using the social media to her advantage right now. She has a good communication with the fans (the cosplay as her character is just adorable).

Well, I have to say there is something really "Barbara Gordon" about the actress herself. This mix of geekiness and good will that defines the modern Barbara in the comics.

Those resistance bands are no joke.

Started using them recently along with the usual weights and they are pretty hardcore.👦

@WakandaTech - It won’t be Keaton.

Curious to know how it all works out with this universe immediately being tied to the dead one by casting Simmons.

@Waddles - No as The Batman is in its own “universe.” This is in the DCEU.

@Waddles - I guess the proof is in the pudding, or something like that. I'm just a casual observer ultimately. I'm sure it's all part of the plan.

@Waddles - He’s not though. Only the anti Snyder/DCEU people are constantly assuming it’s Keaton. One of the directors even shared a “meme” which showed someone with a black cat on their head (placed as if it was a cowl) morphing into Batfleck. 😂

@Waddles - I think the 'shared DC universe' still exists but due to the mostly negative reactions to BvS and JL they're just being more subtle about it.

Instead of going down Marvel's path where any character could show up in any other character's movie, DC are focusing on single stories with single characters with hints that the larger universe still exits.

I have a feeling that The Flash movie is going to act as a sort of soft reboot for the shared universe aspect of DC's movies. Given that it borrows from the Flashpoint storyline I wouldn't be surprised if WB/DC use it as a chance to reset things.

Sorry, the need to document your entire life is a weird concept to me. I've been working out 5x a week for 28 years and working full time for 24. I've never felt the need to film and share it with anyone. Results speak for themselves.
