Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's The Long Halloween is still considered one of the greatest Batman stories of all time, and now it looks like an animated take on the classic tale is finally in the works.

According to Revenge of the Fans, DC is in the process of developing a two-part adaptation Loeb's story, which takes place during the early days of The Dark Knight's stint as Gotham's protector and focuses on his efforts to bring down the mysterious Holiday Killer.

The site has also revealed the main cast members, although they're not certain which characters they'll be providing the voices for: Troy Baker, Jensen Ackles, Naya Rivera, Titus Welliver and David Dastmalchian.

Baker has voiced both Batman and The Joker in the past so it's a safe bet he'll be reprising one of those roles, but there rest are open for speculation.

We'll have to take this as a rumor for the time being, but let's hope it turns out to be on the level and we get some kind of official announcement soon. In the meantime, let us know what you make of this down below. We also have a synopsis of the comic arc for those unfamiliar with the story.

“Christmas. St. Patrick’s Day. Easter. As the calendar’s days stack up, so do the bodies littered in the streets of Gotham City. A murderer is loose, killing only on holidays. The only man that can stop this fiend? The Dark Knight. In a mystery taking place during Batman’s early days of crime fighting, Batman: The Long Halloween is one of the greatest Dark Knight stories ever told.

Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month. A mystery that has the reader continually guessing the identity of the killer, this story also ties into the events that transform Harvey Dent into Batman’s deadly enemy, Two-Face.“

I know this is not the Count Dooku thread, but...

It still applies!

@Doomsday8888 - Considering this year is Batman's 80th anniversary, wish it had come out this year or Batman Hush were a 2 parter

This is one of my favorites. It's kinda a bummer though. I was hoping this would be the story for Matt Reeves Batman movie. Guess not, oh well.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - well, apparently its a standlone film compared to the TDKR 2 parter. There's a glimmer of hope.

@BlackBeltJones - Even their more faithful adaptations like Killing Joke and Gotham by Gaslight look lazy and bland in visuals and motion. If they're going animate the striking imagery of Sale's art, they better go balls to the wall.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - DC Animated movies arent as good as they use to be, but they are still good, and there are still great ones like Gotham By Gaslight, Gods and Monsters, Batman Return Of The Caped Crusaders and Batman VS Two Face

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I would appreciate TDKR animation style at least, or something anime-esque. Maybe like Avatar.

@dracula - they were very good.

I want Jeremy Sisto back as Batman though

@BlackBeltJones - Probably no chance of Bryan Cranston voicing Gordon again

Oh thank god it's a two parter, TLH is way too long and detailed a story to be squeezed into a single movie. I hope it's not set in the New 52 DCAU.

Also, love Titus Welliver, he has a great voice. I hope he's voicing Batman. Love that dude on Bosch.

But you never know, Troy Baker also could be voicing Batman.

@RageDriver2401

Welliver will probably be a mob boss - maybe Sal Maroni. Great casting tho.
