BATMAN REIMAGINED: Norman Rockwell Style by Artist Mark Dos Santos

What would the results have been if famed painter Norman Rockwell decided to use Gotham City as his source of inspiration? It starts with his art appearing on the cover of The Gotham Evening Post, and proceeds to some interesting variations of famed covers.

Artist Mark Dos Santos has decided to embark on that little experiment, paying homage to Rockwell and offering up an approach that is unique, to say the least.

These don't really look like Norman Rockwell style to me. The characters look like they were cut out of a comic book and pasted onto a Norman Rockwell style background. Not downing the artwork because the artwork is great! I just don't know that this would have screamed Norman Rockwell if I had checked it out without reading the title.

Doesn't look very Rockwell-esque to me, but they are pretty good nonetheless, the second and last ones are great!

That's some gorgeous art right there. This artist has a very Frank Cho like quality to his faces and bodies.

Why is it ok for Batman to watch people but when Superman does it's weird?

These are very cool. The top one is touching: I'm pretty sure that's Batman remembering Christmas with his parents.

The little boy looks a lot like Bruce Wayne. And the boy's parent look just like Thomas and Martha Wayne.

I like the 3 ladies in jail..we all know whats going to "go down" in that cell don't we?

Harley is using her arms to squeeze her love muffins together..trying to distract Bats but that won't work.

He has the Bat-Pole ready..

These look nothing like Norman Rockwell. Sam Rockwell, maybe. Nice attempt, though.

I gotta agree with you hope and arachnid, the background is the only thin' that even looks like a Rockwell. Rockwell's talent was way above this attempt to imitate. Although, it is cool to have him remembered. Rockwell was a one of a kind for his art style, just like Dave Mann was in the old Easy Rider magazines. Both are gone, but it's good to pay pay tribute to some of the greats.

Batman isn't big on Christmas because of all those rumors of his smelling and that the Batmobile lost a wheel.

@AmpliDude - No, the art isn't Rockwell, but the artist took the EXACT layouts and changed "Saturday" to "Gotham" -- if you wouldn't have been able to figure out these were Rockwell homages, that's a fault in you, not the artist. It's EXTREMELY obvious what he's following here.

That said, they're a lot of fun, and I like that he went with a more cartoony art style rather than trying to actually copy Rockwell's realism.

I mean with the exception of the style of text that says "Gotham evening post" there is really little much to do with anything Norman Rockwell...but I'm not gonna be that dick who rips it, because they are cool pieces of art, and some of the way the images are composed are a little reminiscent.

Alex Ross work always reminded me of Norman Rockwell, apparently this was a wide spread thought because its mentioned in his book "Mythology"

When i moved into my house like 28 years ago when i was a weeeee little tyke, my parents found a suitcase in the attic, containing several issues of the original Saturday evening post magazine...I think they were more so hoping that they'd find a suitcase full of cash, regardless, we still have em lol.
