Ben Affleck Talks BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, Initial Reluctance And Zack Snyder's Vision

Revealing why he was originally reluctant to accept the role, and whether he has a favorite Batman, Ben Affleck also discusses Zack Snyder's vision for his Gotham City hero in Batman Vs. Superman!

Since news broke that Ben Affleck would take up the mantle as the Caped Crusader in Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs. Superman, we've heard very little from the Academy Award-winning actor/director. But speaking with 411 recently, Affleck was pressed for his first thoughts after he was first presented the coveted role. "Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn't fit the traditional mold," he admitted. "But once Zack showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it's the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack's vision."

Acknowledging Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara's "tired, weary and seasoned" description of director Zack Snyder's Batman, Ben Affeck said, "Yes, Kevin described it aptly. I don't want to go further because I want to be able to capitalize on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience." When asked if he has a favorite Batman, the actor responded moderately - "It has been done very well many times before." Well, what do you think?

Can't wait to see Affleck in the suit, I've supported his casting since Day 1.

Gimme a shot of him in the suit, and I will be 100% convinced.

I don't doubt his acting abilities, or that he'll look good in the suit.

I'm worried about what the suit is going to look like. Please god don't go the safe route, make it at least somewhat practical.

Wasn't happy when he was picked but he seems passionate about the role. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I just hope he gets a personal trainer and get in believable fighting shape. Next to Cavill Ben needs to bulk up.

@SageMode You ok? You seem uninterested. It's okay I agree with you, Marvel Studios is the best and they have the Midas Touch so [frick] DC, Fox, and Sony. -_-

I really wonder what this concept of Batman is that it got Affleck to break his rule of no more superheroes and after his success as a director. When you can make a Academy Award director be invested in your plan to have him as an actor under you; it's either the money is good, you get creative involvement, or the concept is that damn good. I can't imagine no other version than comic book/animated Batman because he was the only one that could stand up next to Superman. They HAVE to up Batman, make him more comicbooky, and make him smarter and at peak human performance. They HAVE to make him the most dangerous man in the world and I'm excited to see what they do with it.

Gun@ I'm sure he would. And he's taller at 6'4 to Cavill's 6'1. This is going to be interesting.

Awesome casting. He's going to nail it!
I do hop the costume looks good though. The Arkham Origins one is great. The Arkham Asylum/City suit is not good though.

This film is going to be visually appealing, but it's going to lack in dialogue, character development, pacing, and substance, just like MOS.

Well, have fun with the multi-Razzie award winning actor that was chosen to play a character that was shoehornely picked for BO earnings.

Good luck.

Saying Batman was put in for BO earnings is like saying Iron Man was in Avengers for BO earnings. This is World's Finest, its not like they randomly put two DC characters in a movie together. I am a Marvel guy, you could consider that my main course, but DC is my dessert.

@SageMode Actually, great point. I may disagree with your MOS comment but this could easily be a cash grab with NO substance we will see. Great post but I hope in 2015 you acknowledge this film is good IF they focus on those things you said. Coming from you that would reassure a lot of things for me.

@Angel01 - Affleck's 6'2.5, actually. Still a bit taller than Cavill, but thet can fix that if they want.

Can't wait to see the new batsuit. Will probably be the best one yet.

Though casting Robert Downey Jr isn't any different from this too, if you think about it. Clearly RDJ was an inspired choice, not well received at first, but it also made some good BO money too. Hopefully same bodes for Affleck...

Yeah, totally shoehorned. Who cares that the script was started back when Man of Steel was finished filming back in 2012. Batman is totally shoehorned in because of the box office "failure" of Man of Steel. Jesus Christ people like to find things to complain about for no foreseeable reason. Batman is easily the next logical hero to be introduced since he was created merely a year after Superman. This is the beginning of a universe (from a company that has all of their character film rights) so why not bring in the two most popular superheros to introduce this universe.
