BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Heading To $80M - $85M Friday

It's becoming clear that the opening weekend record might be broken, once again. Christopher Nolan's final chapter The Dark Knight Rises is expected to gross between $80M and $85M. More after the jump...

Will it set a new opening weekend record? That is the question right now for The Dark Knight Rises. According to Friday estimates, the Christopher Nolan-directed film is expected to make somewhere between $80 million and $85 million. If the estimates hold, that would mean it's about even with Marvel's record-breaking The Avengers for opening day, but it seems it won't reach that opening day record set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. While the opening day was always expected to be huge, it's the numbers for Saturday and Sunday that will play the biggest role.

Deadline also mentions that the film is now at $125.5 million worldwide, and that Hollywood is predicting an opening weekend in the range between $180 million and $200 million. Reports also adds something unusual, saying that Warner Bros. won't report any numbers this weekend:

"I’ve just been told by a Warner Bros spokeswoman that the studio may do this “out of sensitivity to people”. Through midday today the studio was reporting The Dark Knight Rises grosses internationally and domestically as usual. Now it may suspend its box office reporting all weekend for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman trilogy installment. A final decision has not yet been made."

@thatdylhooper: yes you are rigt. I can understand WB and legendary pictures being silent. They're probably shocked at how such an awful event tainted what should have been a joyful day for everyone, especially the peole who were killed, which is the saddest thing of all. Imagine, these people just wanted to watch a film they probably were looking forward to very much, just to have fun and then this happens...who cares about the money at this point?

Damn, damn that killer to hell.

This isn't fair to anyone. To those tragic families, to Chris Nolan, to all those hard actors.

Why do Chris Nolans Batman films always being about tragedy?

I would rather this film never be made than this happen. God damn that man.

I find it so weird the the bat symbol might become more relevant to us now, more than it ever did. It's a symbol of hope.

There's no point in arguing over the symbol. Ashes2phoenix obviously meant it in a positive way.

@Vegakingblade: First off don't get snarky with me, when I posted that response I mean't no offence by it.

In spite of everything that has happened, I just find it odd that the bat symbol may be seen as remembrance to the victims of this brutal, sadistic attack.

I mean't no offence.

Normally I would be happy at this news because Batman is my favorite comic book character and I want everything related to him to do well. However, in light of recent event, I just feel indifferent. All day long I keep wondering why one of the cops did not just kill the f*cker instead of arresting him. I am pretty sure none of the other cops would turn him in to investigators. Anyway, sorry for the strong language; I am normally not like this but then again, today isn't a normal day for any of us...

R.I.P. to the innocent victims of this horrific event

This ... sound very hard:
I deeply regret what happened in Denver and join in prayers for the families and friends of the victims.
But remember one thing: They were in that cinema because they had the illusion of seeing this film. They wanted to enjoy Batman and the creation of Christopher Nolan.
So honor the memory of those who are gone. Let's go see the movie and show that any "crazy wild" can not kill our dreams.
No matter if the film breaks records or not. The important thing is that the spaces to enjoy and have fun do not become places to download anger and disappointment.

Glad its doing well. Its a film that deserves to do well. My heart goes out to the victims and Im glad that WB won't be stopping screenings because of the actions of a lone lunatic with no respect for human life.

"So 14 people have to die for Nolanites and Marvelites to shut up.

RIP people. That guy can rot in hell, but how can you possibly sentence a guy with no empathy. What kind of punishment does that guy deserve?"

Isolation. He wants attention, he wants the spotlight, and death is trivial to him. A death sentence would only ease his misery, for death is ultimately a release from life's woes. Honor the victims, and scrub his name from the books. Give him an 8 x 8 cell with a padded floor, sink, toilet, a dead drop slot for food, no human contact, and no outlet to the outside world ever. Rinse and repeat until his natural end. Let him suffer.

To everyone going out to watch the film, have fun, and be safe. I really hope you guys enjoy it, and don't fall back on the arguments from just a few day ago; they mean absolutely nothing. We're all fans. I can't go with my nephews to watch it now, so I'll have to catch it another day.

Lets just let the people of that particular town morn their loss it has nothing to do with us, and in some ways it is none of our business. We don't need to obsess over it.

As for the film, what a long strange trip it has been. An incredible journey.

Seriously, this has nothing to do with us and this grief mongering really doesn't belong on this website. Yes it's a tragedy, but there are plenty of social media websites that are better places to discuss this.
