BOX OFFICE: Warner Bros. Release Official Figures For THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

It appears as if the tragic shooting at a Colorado movie theatre during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises had a big impact on the domestic box office gross of the threequel. However, it still had the third highest opening weekend ever. Hit the jump for the figures.

Warner Bros. and several other box office tracking agencies decided not to release box office figures over the weekend as a sign of respect to those affected by the shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Unsurprisingly, this tragic event clearly put off many moviegoers in North America as The Dark Knight Rises made a domestic total of $160,887,295 (quite a way off the estimated $180+ million figures thrown around by analysts last week). Regardless, this still gives Christopher Nolan's epic finale the third highest opening weekend ever, below Marvel's The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and above The Dark Knight and The Hunger Games. It earned $75.7 million on Friday, $44.9 million on Saturday and $40.2 million on Sunday. Meanwhile, it opened to $88 million internationally from 17 markets (it opens in another 40 next weekend) which included $22.5 million from the UK, $15.7 million from Korea and $15.5 million from Australia. That gives it a current worldwide cume of $248.9 million. The Dark Knight Rises has received an 'A' CinemaScore rating from audiences and you can read my 5* review of the film by clicking HERE.
