Christian has to be one of the most dedicated actors working in the industry. How many of his fellow thespians would have lived off of a can of tuna, or an apple a day in order to drop 63 pounds? He went from 185 lbs to 123 lbs for the 2004 movie, The Machinist.

Think about it. How many of you have even seen The Machinist? Probably not too many of you. Sure, you've seen the pictures of an emaciated Bale, that makes starving Ethopian's shudder, but I'm sure most of you haven't taken the time to see his performance. What I'm getting at is that he committed to the role even though he probably knew most people were never gonna see it. He put his body through gut wrenching agony just to bring authenticity to the role. Bravo!

It wasn't difficult playing Batman:
"You know, I wouldn't say hard because i don't like to..." He breaks off, rethinking his answer. "There's no complaints, you know? There's no whining that you'll be hearing from me because when you agree to do a job you do it. Physically, it's taxing. Man, you're in that suit and you're getting punched and you're getting thrown around but in the end, you know, it always go smoothly."

"As my costar Michael Caine says to me, never complain, never explain," he adds. Bale does a little cock of the head and flashes those teeth again. Something in the smile says, "I know that you know that I know we're not just talking about bat-suits here."

Christian Bale's take on The Dark Knight Rises:
"After battling bad guys his whole career, he's feeling the pain of his pursuits and also of the facade he has kept up," Bale says. "The only person who knows him completely is Alfred, and they were not communicating when the last one ended. For Bruce, the question will be, how long will the scarring episodes of his past control him? It's really time for him to look at himself and face the issues he's been avoiding all his life."

Last moments as Batman:
Bale says that he got to keep one cowl from each film and "treasures them. I have been deeply honored to inhabit this character." He felt real pain letting Batman go, he admits. "We had been filming for seven months. India, London, Los Angeles, Scotland, New York. We had been moving with all this momentum. It was a massive undertaking. Physically, emotionally, every way. But suddenly we were in the final throes. I sat down and asked for a little space. I stared at the cowl for a good long moment and thought, 'Man, this one really took on a life of its own.'"

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Alfred and Bruce weren't communicating at the end of The Dark Knight?
Knightrider
Knightrider - 5/28/2012, 7:16 PM
@RFBD I think a better way to put that was, they were not being honest with each other. Alfred was burning Rachel's note thus keeping secrets from him.

And maybe like Lucius, Alfred was not too keen on the phone hacking.

Perhaps, it will be very interesting to see everyone's dynamic the first couple of scenes of the movie.

Well, Alfred did burn the letter Rachel meant for Bruce to read. He did it to protect him, but there was probably a lot he had to keep from him. Alfred was being completely honest or up front with Bruce, ultimately. He's also referring to the fact that Bruce may have been even more emotionally reclusive following the night with Harvey.

Anyone else get the feeling that Bane is going to kill Alfred in front of Bruce... possibly explaining the above .gif of him yelling "No!"...? The whole "full circle" quote everyone associated with TDKR keeps bringing up makes me think that Bane is going to really screw up Bruce's/Batman's life... and what worse way could he really mess Wayne up than by killing the only family he has left?

I took his quote about Alfred as meaning we didn't get to see Alfred's opinion on Bruce/Batman taking the fall for Dent's crimes...

@viltrumite

I don't think Alfred did it to protect Bruce. I think he did it to reward him in a way. Bruce honestly believed that Rachel would be waiting there for him, and that she would leave Harvey for him. They are both dead, so why not give him that moral victory. Alfred didn't think the "truth was good enough," Bruce deserved "more" for what he went through, and even though it's a small thing, it's something Alfred can do for Bruce.

Avenger53 I was sort of thinking the same thing but I think he will fall in love with Celina and Bane will kill her in front of him.

Like him, I would've kept a momento from each film and felt honored to play one of the most iconic comic book heroes in history, glad to see he felt that emotional connection to playing Bruce/Batman, seems to have meant alot to him.

Woah!
I just realized a the mirror connection between Batman and Gordon covering up harsh truths in order to keep Gotham stable.

And Alfred doing the same thing for Bruce when he burnt the letter.

Powerful stuff, its cool how after all of these years, I am stil dicovering things about this movie that I hadn't realized.

"I stared at the cowl for a good long moment and thought, 'Man, this one really took on a life of its own.'"

Nice, very nice. No doubt, Bale is talented. You could have cited more than just Machinist if that was something you were trying to convey, but it's a good start. American Psycho already immortalized him for me.

Whats wrong with people looking forward to Batman and Superman again?

I'm looking forward to Skyfall, just as much as I am to Spider-Man, TDKR, The Hobbit and Prometheus. It doesn't matter how many times the character has been on screen for me as much how good the movie is.

You can't tell me Marvel is going to stop making Iron Man movies given their success rate. People enjoy seeing their favorite characters on screen, that enjoyment shouldn't bother anyone else.
