HELL ON WHEELS' Anson Mount On The Possibility Of Playing BATMAN

Anson Mount has emerged as a fan-favorite to replace Christian Bale as the Dark Knight (who will next appear in Batman/Superman), but what does the Hell On Wheels star have to say? Plus, Liam McIntyre, Sam Witwer and Scott Adkins tweet on potentially playing the Caped Crusader.

With a new actor set to fill the role of Batman in 2015's Man Of Steel follow-up (in which the Dark Knight and Superman will face off), there is sure to be interest from many in playing the character. We previously heard interest from Spartacus' Liam McIntyre and Supernatural's Jensen Ackles, while The Lone Ranger's Armie Hammer (who was actually cast as the Caped Crusader in the canned Justice League: Mortal) withdrew himself from the race earlier this week. Now, Hell On Wheels' Anson Mount addresses the possibility of playing Batman in response to emerging as a fan-favorite for the role. In an interview with Huffington Post, he says that he's a fan of director Zack Snyder (who is helming Batman/Superman) as well as the character himself. "It's just flattering to be considered as someone who can even begin to approach this role. I read comics growing up and Batman was one of my favorites. I think Zack Snyder is a great filmmaker." Recent rumors suggest that an older Batman will be featured in the movie, with names such as Josh Brolin and Jon Hamm being brought up. If that's the case, it wouldn't be out of the question to see Mount being considered (especially after his comments on the matter).

In other Batman news, below is a collection of tweets from three actors who have also been brought up in casting the Caped Crusader. The aforementioned Liam McIntyre thanks fans for their support, but then states that the role is "not meant" for him (apparently in response to the rumor of an older Batman being used). Ninja's Scott Adkins also comments on the possibility, and Being Human's Sam Witwer says that playing the Dark Knight is "an idea" after suggesting that Michael Keaton should reprise the role for an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Who do you think should play the next Batman?

Scott adkins for the win. He is more badass than anyone else. And if you think that he couldn't be a convincing bruce wayne than he is doing it right. Bruce wayne isn't supost to be a playboy. He was raised with anger in his heart, he isn't used to going to parties. For god sakes he spent most of his teenage years in wayne manor.

I think Anson Mount is a great choice for Batman. His voice and stature would lend to his appearance as Bruce and Batman. Hell on Wheels is an excellent show.

@alphadog

Clearly you don't know jack about Batman, sure hes not a playboy on the inside but on the outside he pretends to be one to throw away an suspicion of him possibly being Batman with him acting like a jackass. The comics have done this for years and its a well established part of his character.

Anyone else think since they are going for older actors they should bring the REAL Batman back?

That's right, Val Kilmer.

Shit Adkins would be a badass Batman... If they have batman fighting like that it would be epic... One that has not been done right in live action.

Anson Mount is a pretty intense actor, if you haven't seen HELL ON WHEELS. Hes the best choice for Batman I've seen in years.

Liam McIntyre may have the look and actual height(6'2'') but as far as actually becoming the role, Tyler Hoechlin looks like he can perfectly bring on the feel of the Batman. Hoechlin I believe.

I'd like someone younger but, for older choices I'd pick Scott Adkins. Why? He was fantastic in Ninja and he seems like he could portray not only the acting ability to pull of Batman/Bruce Wayne but also the action.

If they showed some action scenes like this for the new Batman my mind would be blown.

I could see Karl Urban but I'd pick Scott over Urban just because he's a few years younger.

Well Warner Brothers confirmed that the next Bataman will be older,so no chance for these young actors,i still belive Karl Urban is a best choice

Scott Adkins is only 37 so he's only 7 years older than Cavill.

@ekrolo2 A bruce wayne that acts like a playboy would be at moat as good at as an ACTOR that pretends to be a playboy.

Why in the world are they going for an older Batman???

How short-sighted are you, WB? You can't possibly use any of these 40+ yr. old actors to reboot a trilogy or star in future Justice League movies. He would be 50 yrs. old by the time Batman gets a sequel (2019) or Justice League gets a sequel (2020).

USE YOUR HEADS, you imbeciles.

I still vouch for Liam McIntyre.

Uh. No, no, no and... no. I barely now who one of these guys are. They already hired an unknown for Superman (relatively speaking), so for Batman, they should hire a MOVIE STAR. Someone very well known.

My choices are Jim Caviezel and Karl Urban. And for the sake of physicality, it has to be Adkins. For once I'd like to see some gritty acrobatics... I've reconsidered my choice of Hugh Dancy as someone from the rogues gallery rather than the Bats himself.

Eric Bana for an older Batman. He is the perfect choice.

As much as I like anson he's too old. That is unless WB is establishing a batman where robin and night wing already exist. He would need to be 40 ish.
IronBalls
IronBalls - 8/3/2013, 6:31 AM
If there going to use an older Batman I think they should quite rightly offer it to Adam West.
Its only fitting that he gets an opportunity to bring the role to the big screen and plays a darker, more gritty version.
