Zazie Beetz may or may not be back as Domino in Deadpool 3, but it looks like the highly in-demand Bullet Train actress is set to reprise her other comic book movie role.
Deadline reports that Beetz is now in talks to return as Sophie Dumond in Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, Folie à Deux, which is scheduled to start shooting this December.
The Atlanta star only a had a relatively minor role in the first film as a single mother who lived in Arthur Fleck's (Joaquin Phoenix) apartment and soon became the object of his affection. As the plot progresses, the two grow close, but it's ultimately revealed that Fleck was delusional and imagined their entire relationship.
Sophie's fate was left somewhat ambiguous in the final act after she finds Arthur sitting in her apartment. How she'll factor into the sequel remains to be seen, but the majority of the story will reportedly play out in Arkham Asylum, so perhaps she'll pay her old neighbor a visit?
"Folie à Deux" loosely translates to "madness for two," a condition that is generally defined as an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually the members of a close family. The title reveal led to speculation that Harley Quinn may be involved, and sure enough, we'd later learn that none other than Lady Gaga had been cast in the role.
Details are few and far between, but the A Star Is Born actress obviously won't be playing the same version of Harley Margot Robbie portrayed in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad.
The movie is being developed as a musical, but again, we still don't have a whole lot to go on.
Joker: Folie à deux is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. You can check out the announcemnet teaser below.
