Joker, Warner Bros.' latest DC Comics adaptation, is laughing and dancing his way back to the top of the box office, earning a spectacular $55 million in its second full week on release (-42.8%) and taking its domestic total to $192.7 million. Internationally, the Todd Phillips-directed supervillain origin story grossed another $125.7 million, bringing its overseas total to $351.2 million.

Overall, the Joaquin Phoenix-starrer has grossed over $543.9 million after just ten days, and is well on track for a massive - likely north of $800M - collection at the end of its box office run later this year.

As for the new releases, MGM's The Addams Family exceeded expectations with $30.3 million domestically while Ang Lee's über-ambitious Gemini Man disappointed with $20.5 million in a third place launch. The Will Smith-starrer, however, did fare a little better overseas taking in $39 million to bring its opening worldwide total to $59.5 million, although it'll still be an uphill battle to recoup its estimated $138 million production budget.

Forever alone in a crowd, Arthur Fleck seeks connection. Yet, as he trods the sooted Gotham City streets and rides the graffitied mass transit rails of a hostile town teeming with division and dissatisfaction, Arthur wears two masks. One, he paints on for his day job as a clown. The other he can never remove; it’s the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel he’s a part of the world around him, and not the misunderstood man whom life is repeatedly beating down. Fatherless, Arthur has a fragile mother, arguably his best friend, who nicknamed him Happy, a moniker that’s fostered in Arthur a smile that hides the heartache beneath. But, when bullied by teens on the streets, taunted by suits on the subway, or simply teased by his fellow clowns at work, this social outlier only becomes even more out of sync with everyone around him.

A 29% drop internationally is insane. Even taking away France & Germany, where it opened this weekend, it only dropped 32% in the markets it opened last week combined.
Unless it drops like a rock, this could hit a billion, which would make it:
-the first R rated film to do so
-the cheapest film to ever do so
-the highest grossing film with the Joker in it

I guess we really do live in a society.

@tmp3 - If this film makes a billion or even out grosses BvS it will be an utter embarrassment for Zack Snyder.

Here's a film totally about Joker, a completely demented and unlikable character, starring an actor who takes on mostly indie or understated roles, released in October and it makes a billion? Or even close to it? LMAO!

I mean it's already terrible that Joker is going to outgross Justice Leauge. A film featuring some of the most popular and iconic characters ever.
