Story Ideas for the Next BATMAN Solo Film

It has been a few months since WB found their new Batman. Since there's no doubt he will have a new solo outting (or a few), here are a few ideas on for the story based off of the info we've been given.

Let's start at the beginning:
-At SDCC13, it was announced that Batman would meet Superman on film.
-After SDCC13, we heard that WB was looking for an actor to portray an older, more experienced Batman, then Ben Affleck was cast.
-WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara said that this version of Batman is "tired, weary and seasoned."

With the emphasis being placed on Batman being an experienced veteran, I have come to the conclusion that they are straying away from an origin story. Now, his origin might be referenced to or shown in flashbacks, but the main point is that he's established as crime fighter. So, I've found a few stories that would not need to show the origin for the hero or villains.

*While I think the Joker is overused, he is no doubt the most popular and marketable to the general audience.

**I don't think they're going for sidekicks, so I didn't include Nightwing/Robin or Batgirl.

1. Night of the Owls

My first pic would be the more recent "Night of the Owls." Batman has already been established, and WB can introduce a new villain(s) that haven't been done before. His parents and even potential brother could be referenced as well.

2. Hush

My favorite Batman story, "Hush" would be an excellent movie in my opinion. It has the feel of an action/drama. While it might be difficult to get all of those villains on screen in a 2 hour time frame, some parts can be cut, or it can be a 2-part movie (I kid). I'd pick this because you can establish serious villains without having to set an origin up for each one. It'd also establish Batman's detective skill. However, this might be a better story to close a saga than open it.

3. Arkham Asylum

Similar to "Hush," "Arkham Asylum" also has many well known villains involved who don't require an origin story. The game based on the story holds a Guiness record for "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever," so imagine how awesome a movie about it could be.

4. Knightfall

While already loosely adapted in "Dark Knight Rises," "Knightfall" would be a good way to introduce lesser villains that Bane gets out of jail, and gives us another chance to get a proper Bane. The backbreaking doesn't have to happen, perhaps he just pumells Batman to near death, or severly wounds Alfred. Also, Azrael doesn't have to become Batman, or even be in the film.

5. The Killing Joke

Perhaps the all-time fan-favorite Batman story, "The Killing Joke" would make a dark and twisted movie. Barbara doesn't have to be Batgirl. Her crippling at the hands of Joker would still be as sickening an gut wretching if she's just Gorgon's daughter. Perhaps she becomes Oracle at the end. And again, Batman's most popular villain is in the spotlight, in his sickest potential.

No. No to ever directly adapting a comic story (or animated film) directly to a live action movie. I might be okay with using some general ideas from comics, but I want the movies to be at least somewhat original. Give us something new, something we haven't seen or read. Not just taking a comic book and turning it into a movie.

@bazinga85
It was a great arc and would give us a fresh villain.

@Lhornbk
I wasn't saying directly adapt them. Similar to how Nolan used Knightfall, or even how Mangold did with The Wolverine. A deviation but the overall plot is still there.

@Interestein
I agree with both!

@AnnoDomini
While it would be too soon, I was just thinking of ways to bring in some villains. I agree with your Arkham idea though!

Night of the Owls, yes, YES! but I think it would work best if its the last film in a trilogy, when Batman thinks he's got tabs on every rogue, only to be surprised about the existence of the Court of Owls.

What about Under the Red Hood?

My idea is to do a five film series with"A Lonely Place of Dying" first, that establishes Robin in this universe and why Batman needs him. Then, reveal The Joker at the end behind all of the Two Face stuff but Batman doesn't confront him, he's planning something. The second movie would be "Under the Hood" based on that arc,with Robin and Nightwing having larger parts in the story. Robin starts to turn against Bruce as The Red Hood shows him what happens when you're Robin, Joker isn't in this as I said, he's planning something. Thirdly, the first seven issues of Snyder's run "The Court of Owls" where we're introduced to The Court of Owls and Talon, we get the great maze parts and it ends with the seventh issue, Batman makes it out and we get to see The Talons taking off for the "Night of the Owls" which is the fourth film in the series. This movie unites the Bat-Family without Damian because (frick) Damian. Barbara is still Oracle in this though, because (frick) New 52 continuity. We get the reveal of Thomas Wayne Jr and the whole Owls storyline is finished. At the end of this movie, we see Joker ready to get his beautiful face cut off which leads into... "Death of the Family" if the last movie was uniting the Bat-Family, this one is tearing it down. The Joker knows everyone's identity and he's kidnapping everyone. This'll follow the main arc written by Snyder but with some spin-off stuff getting in there. The Joker's plan is revealed, to kill the Bat-Family besides Batman. The ending us bittersweet, with everyone distrusting Bruce but they all make it out alive and The Joker's fate is unknown.

Hush would be great a story for the first film

Batman should have his sidekicks. He needs his sidekicks for a lot of these stories. Court/Night of Owls needs multiple sidekicks and some if batman inc. In killing joke Barbara gets shot. Nightwing is in knightfall. Nightwing, Robin III and "Jason Todd" all make appearances in Hush.

Perhaps a combo of things & story lines would work.

For the most part, I hope this Batman is a bitter & more deadly Bats. It should take place after the Todds death, which explains much of his actions. He should also still be an extremely skilled strategist & detective. As Superman will be sent after him, he should have figured out his secret identity & have tricks up his sleeve, red sunlight etc...why he's so dark & tortured would be furthered explored in his solo movies/series.

As for the story line....you can combine much of those comics story lines. As the Owls could release the inmates of Arkham, Batman hunts most of them down. Giving us cameos of the more abstract & possibly never to be used as a straight antagonist, like Dr Pig, Victor Zsaz,etc...while leaving The A-lister villains open for future movies. Now a tired & battered Batman is attacked by the Talons & now you can have/keep Dick separate from this. In the mean time Joker goes off leaving Batman to deal with the Owls & this wild card (which I think TDKR would've been ala No mans Land). Which will be a challenge of all Bruce's attributes,skills & tolerance.

What would be great to see in the VS movie is how the Bruce & Batman characters are completely separate,almost like a schizophrenic. We should be wondering which is the real person, is one a mask, is he both in sense...& those questions should not be answered & we should be left wondering like Superman must be.

If Affleck can do that, ill be impressed.

I had an idea that combined Court of the Owls, Hush and Azrael

1. Batman Begins but with the League of Shadows.

3. Batman Begins again.

4. The Dark Knight Rises pretty much.

5. The Dark Knight, with Harvey taking Barbara's place.

Hush has the potential to be a really great movie.

Bane and joker should be a huge no go for a few films for obvious reasons. The court of owls would be a great story to adapt but in order for it to work you need to establish Gotham as an entity of its own considering how deep it goes into Gotham and it's history, so I would save court of owls until at least the 2nd movie. Hush is a good story to adapt but for a first movie it runs into the same problem the comic ran into in that it's too obvious who hush is. Seeding hush over a movie or 2 would be a better move in my opinion. Arkham asylum works great as a game but for it to work on film they would have to make some changes and cut things out to make it work for film. I personally think they should take a stab at riddler and introduce robin, that immediately distances itself from the Nolan movies by using 2 characters that weren't in that series.
