The CW announced plans for The Graysons, a pilot centering on comicdom's top sidekick, Robin, in his pre-Bat-partnering days.

The show will follow Dick "DJ" Grayson before he donned the cape, much like Smallville centers on a pre-Superman Clark Kent.

The hourlong series, which will be set in present day, will follow Grayson as he navigates through family dramas, first loves and rivals.

McG, who has helmed episodes of Chuck, Supernatural and The O.C. in addition to big-screen fare like Charlie's Angels and the upcoming Terminator Salvation, is on board to executive produce the pilot, as are Smallville exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson.

While it has yet to be picked up by the network (not unlike a certain aquatic guy), the Robin pilot is already being groomed as a companion show and possible replacement for Smallville.

Can see what mileage you could possibly get out of a pre-batman robin, post-batman nightwing in bludhaven then we might be in business.

This is stupid, it's like with Smallville, they never intended to have him fight super baddieds and stuff, they lacked the foresight. Now it has become what it had to: a Superman TV show, minus the costume and flying (for now). Eventually on this stupid show, they'll stark delving into the Batman lore and he'll end up fighting a knock off of two face or penguin...make a show about Robin travelling the world as in the FIRST Robin solo book in the early 90's...DAMMIT!

Im not a fan of Smallville but when I watch it I enjoy it. As for Robin I don't think hes going to be interesting at all.

I wouldn't watch it unless the first episode was the origin of Nightwing
