Variety has learned that Warner Bros. Pictures will be re-releasing Christopher Nolan's critically-acclaimed superhero blockbuster The Dark Knight, which starred Academy Award-winner Christian Bale in the title role, in four select IMAX theaters later this summer to commemorate the film's 10-year anniversary.

The film will be screened for one week only, starting Friday, August 24 and tickets will go on sale this Friday, July 20 for the following four locations:

  • AMC Universal Citywalk IMAX, Universal City
  • AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, New York
  • AMC Metreon IMAX, San Francisco
  • Ontario Place Cinesphere IMAX, Toronto
The Dark Knight was partially filmed with 70mm IMAX cameras and became the first major motion picture in cinematic history to have even been partially shot in the premium format. Nolan and cinematographer Wally Pfister filmed four key sequences in IMAX, including the Joker's (Heath Ledger) opening bank robbery and the car chase that takes place midway through the movie. Overall, the film contained about 28 minutes of IMAX footage.

Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan reunite following their blockbuster success with Batman Begins! This time, Heath Ledger joins the cast as The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart stars as Harvey Dent in an all-new adventure of The Dark Knight. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and new district attorney Harvey Dent (Eckhart--Thank You for Smoking), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham City forever. The three enjoy early success, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Ledger--Brokeback Mountain), who throws Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman ever closer to crossing the line between hero and vigilante.

Meh - I'll just rewatch it on my own TV tonight.

Am I the only one who feels like this? I don't need to rewatch this in IMAX.

@Kman

If it were in more IMAXs, I would absolutely pay to see it again.

TDK was on lof the best theater experiences I’ve ever had.

Too depressing to be reminded of what a good Batman movie is

Haven't seen it so far in this thread but it's been funny to watch a lot of users shift on this trilogy through time. The most recent shift has seen a lot of you claim Batman Begins is now the best of the trilogy. A lot more people seem to have come around to TDKR, though it's still pretty divisive. But at some point, people seem to have put TDK on the backburner behind Begins. Sorry but they're not even close to me. I may even put TDKR over Begins. Not by much, but it's a pretty great film. I think the issue is people hold Begins up now because it's more Batman-comics-accurate, but the Dark Knight is a better film. It's a near-perfect superhero film even if it's not torn from the comics. TDKR was a great finale to a trilogy and Hardy's Bane is divine to watch.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I think Batman Begins is a better Batman film BECAUSE it’s focused on Batman

The Dark Knight is focused on Batman/Bruce, Gordon, & Dent in their battle to take down the mob & the Joker

Nothing wrong with The Dark Knight. The Long Halloween was plotted the same way just with the Holiday Killer instead of Joker. But I can see why people prefer Begins

I think Rises was great. Do I think it’s better than the first 2? Not really but I think it’s still an overall great & epic climax to the trilogy.

And I love Hardy’s Bane
