The Emotional Keaton or The Mechanical Bale?

Who do you prefer?

For a while now there has been so much competition from both of the worlds greatest Batmans as far as opinions go.
When Keaton played Batman, He explored the emotional side that people weren't used to.He gave us a Batman that was as much in depth as his alter ego Bruce Wayne was.I honestly preferred Keaton's because he wasn't afraid to do what was necessary unlike Bale.
As for Bale...He gave us the Batman that people were so thirsty for after the Garbage of the Schumacher films literally drained us. He was so mechanical in his ways of fighting crime and was as relentless as the people he crumbled night after night. Bale gave us a badass batman while keeping the mechanical and emotional separate. Which I think was a good strategy to playing Batman

I chose Keaton only because he has a better Bruce Wayne, i grew up with that movie, and prefer him as an actor overall

to me bale has the right balance between bruce wayne and batman, keaton was great as batman but personally I don't think he had the right balance. But he was still [frick]ing amazing the amount of people that were against him well that changed a bit did it not.

@dellamorte1872 If you read the question again it asks which do you prefer, not which is most like the comics!

bale and keaton will always be my top 2 favourite actors to play batman and even val kilmer pulled of the character even though batman forever was a dissapoint to the franchise but clooney should never of played the bat it was just wrong.

I like Bale's version better. I loved Keaton but I think Bale portrayed the cold detachment that Bruce Wayne would view the rest of the world having been through everything he'd experienced.

did that even make sense?

it makes sense @Knightstalker lol.....and i like Bale more he really understood the part and took it seriously and say what you want about his voice but if any of us saw him in a dark back alley with that look he had in Batman Begins and that voice....we'd shit our pants...so hes definitely the most intimidating Batman ever! and Bale looks more the part then Keaton

As always, a pointless debate

They're not even portraying the same character timeline wise

Keaton's was more of Miller's TDKR, actually more like one graphic novel which was pretty much all they had back in 88 while making the film. Burton made it clear Year One was not a source of inspiration (which clearly showed why the origin was bastardized) Plus Keaton wasn't really "emotional" more like a stoic character who put on a stone face mostly.

Bale is obviously the face of the New Earth/Modern Age Bruce Wayne we've come to now since Year One. Much like Daniel Craig's Bond was characterized by source material Bale's Bruce Wayne has characteristics from N.E Batman in the Nolan films.

All in all you simply can't compare the two other than the films they're in overall.

I've never felt much drive or intensity coming from Keaton's Batman. With Bale I really get the sense that he's a man on a mission, which is very important to the character IMO.
Bale easilly wins for me.

I don't understand what you mean when you say Keaton wasn't afraid to do what was necessary. He killed certain people that he could have taken out with less violence. (i'm thinking about that guy he blew up in Returns) Bale's Bruce had moral standards that he didn't want to break. The only time I can think of that it really got in the way was when he crashed the bike instead of ramming the Joker.

I liked them both actually. But if anything, i think if that damn schumacher wasnt directing, Val Kilmer could've been the best one in my opinion.

Keaton looks like a "Batman" as Bruce Wayne because of his eyebrows LOL, but seriously I think Bales character doesn't show enough "Bruce" as a humanitarian/social person. If that means anything, maybe I'm thinking of the 1992 Animated series where Keaton played close to.

Ya know I have to retract my statement Bale plays Batman at the beginning so he hasn't come to grip with his demons , he has to experience cat woman, Dent, gorsons daughter in the wheel chair, Jason Todd, among other things. So disregard all except that Keaton looks like a "Batman" as Bruce Wayne....I do not forsee any disagreements with that LOL

Bale and Kilmer both have the look of Batman/Bruce Wayne, but they kinda suck at it. Kilmer was flat all the way through the movie, there was no difference in his performance of either Bruce or Batman. Bale is a great Bruce Wayne, and as stated before he has the look of a great Batman, but his "Tough Guy" voice just ruins it. Especially when you have to use subtitles just to understand what the hell he's trying to say. Keaton was the best Batman because he played the part perfectly. To put it in perspective: It's not Bruce Wayne playing Batman, Batman plays the role of Bruce Wayne. The 88' movie was horrible and that is Burton's fault, but Keaton still made that role his own. And he didn't sound like he had throat cancer....
